!st Oil change tomorrow - 1600 miles (questions)

What did the car come with from the factory?
What should I ask to have put in?
If going to Mobil 1 from stock, for example, do you need an engine flush?
Thanks

The Camaro SS comes from the factory with Mobil 1. I don't think a flush is needed. Most people on the site think that Mobil 1 is good. If you are doing your own oil change make sure you have a oil pan that can hold more than 8 quarts. I learned this the hard way. lol

The car comes with Mobil produts and I used and recommend Mobil 1 Oil synthetic and Mobil 1 Filter, no engine flush required. I did mine myself. Wal-Mart sells the products at very good prices, or watch AutoZone and other parts houses as they put this stuff on sale frequently. I spend about $45.00 total plus my free labor for an 8 quart oil and filter change.

Good luck !!!

I wish I would have read this comment yesterday. I took my 1SS today for its 1st cherry oil change at 1588 miles to my local trusted oil/car wash place. I was thinking i was gonna put in regular oil in as I thought it was already in it and so I told the guys to put in conventional. Prior inquiries to my Chevy Dealer & a call to GM corporate for advice on my 1st oil had failed to tell me it has Mobil 1 in it already.

But to my shock today the oil tech man showed me the oil cap with the "Mobil 1" logo while he had it on the rack for the service. So of course not wanting to short change my beloved SS, I had them put in Mobil 1 (never would have thought Chevy would have put the M1 in, It must be a deal they made with them for the upfront promo)

Final Bill came out to $80 since they had to charge me for 3 extra quarts at $6.00/quart for a total of 8 quarts!!!

Leaned a lesson, next year, will be doing my own oil change from wherever I can get a good price for the M1. Could have saved almost $30 or so minus the filter. With the low miles I put on it (less then 1500 miles/year), the synthetic should last for a year without needing to be changed out.

There is never a need to flush when switching from a conventional petroleum based oil to a synthetic with todays syn's. The blend readily. The motor already has had some break-in done right after assy, but still come w/M1. On the engines I build I break them in the first few hundred miles with a good petrolium based high zinc content oil and then switch to syn after that. I also use 2 stroke oil to coat the pistons/rings/cyl walls during assy as this seems to help the rings seat quicker w/out the residue of reg motor oil burning as the 2 stroke burns pretty clean.

Just changed mine this past weekend. Wal-Mart had 5qt jugs of Mobil 1 on sale for 24 bucks I believe. Saved $10 a jug compared to price at local auto parts store. Once you get your car on jack or ramps takes about 20 minutes or so. Total price was roughly $59 with oil and filter. Like Jus1dab said make sure your oil pan draining into will hold more than 8 qts of oil. The 15 qt ones work great.

I am coming up on the first oil change for my 2011 model, and I am going with Valvoline Synpower so I can just keep one brand of oil in the garage for all my cars. I already switched from Mobil 1 on the Z06 since Valvoline has now surpassed Mobil 1 in wear protection.
