The same thing happened when it was being developed, which took a year to produce a retail version and another year to work the bugs out.

Exactly why I won't bother with one when it comes out.

Toml_pa, that does look pretty good, but it's waaay more expensive! I also think it would look a lot better if it didn't have all that huge writing all over it. JMHO. Have you noticed big improvements? My car is still on order, so I have some time still to decide, but I truly like the way the VARARAM looks. It reminds me of my two WS6 TA's that I have. But if VARARAM can't get their S**t together, then this seems like the best alternative?
PS: Can you post some more pictures? How difficult was installation? |

This CAI comes in several finishes or no finish so it could be powder coated to match whatever and if you order it from New Era (2nd link above) directly, I'm sure Mike Frumusa, the owner, would send you one without the logo. If you have any questions, You should call or email him. He is also a sponser of Camaro5. This CAI is "waaay more expensive!" (only $100?), but you get what you pay for. It is all aluminum construction and is manufactured in house by New Era. It also uses a standard K&N filter ($39). In my opinion, it is by far the best designed and constructed OTR CAI available. Here is a link to more pics. Notice how the tilted radiator is firmly secured by the unit itself. Now look at how Vararam secures the radiator on page 7 under "Installing long bolts" in their installation instructions. More detailed info and dyno numbers can be found here. Very easy to install (30 min.). My car is way more responsive and seems to accelerate much better. This (post #14) is a comparison test of CAIs that Janetty Racing did. Keep in mind that these tests were done on a stationary dyno, not driving down the road with air being forced into the intake. Hope this answered all of your questions, if not give Mike a call.

I was an early adopter on my '11 RS and it was the best mod I'd ever done to a car, except for maybe the Quaiffe Differential that I had installed on '99 5-speed Duratech (the handling and power in that application were amazing).
I traded my '11 RS in for a manual '12 SS about a week ago though and I'll wait for the new Vararam kit for that car after my experiences with the system in that RS.

Well, after much looking and researching, I think I have decided to go with the New Era OTR CAI in Matte Black powdercoat mated to the VMAX ported throttle body in inferno orange. Probably going to add the RX catch can also in inferno orange as well. My car will be a summit white 2012 2SS/RSS convertible with the orange pace car stripes and inferno orange interior. It's scheduled to be built sometime around April 9th.

According to Vararam they are approaching the end of their 12,000 mile test cycle for the 2012 version. They did not give me a specific time frame but I got the impression it wouldn't be very long.

Well, the conundrum continues now! My car won't be ready until around the first of May, (scheduled build date 4/9/12) so do I wait for the Vararam or go with the New Era? I honestly don't know???
