LFX V6 Auto, Idle Surging in neutral only
I noticed my car in neutral (park) that the idle goes up and down about 300 RPM. I never noticed this before today. I have had a CAI on my car for a couple weeks now. I also noticed my exhaust tips are now covered in thick black soot like it's running way too rich. When idling in drive the RPMs are steady at 550. I did disconnect the battery while installing the CAI.
I have a V Maxx ported Throttle body and CAI. Has anyone else had this issue?

Every now and then mine will idle around 800. It usually happens when it's cold out. I think if it was running too rich, it would throw a code.

When you first start its normal to run around 800 or so, mine is going up and down after it warms up. Only when not in gear. Maybe its always done it and I am just now noticing it. Or maybe its just more pronounced now. I do know though its not throwing any codes.

Ok this is weird, I went for a drive this morning and drove for a while. One time I stopped and put the car in park and it was doing the little surging. I blipped the throttle a couple times and it settled down to 500 RPM and held there. I then drove home. When I got home I put it in park and blipped the throttle and it settled at 500 RPM and held there. As I put the top up it never wavered a bit. Maybe I was just paranoid.

UT oh, took her out tonight and got a check engine light. I checked the codes and got codes for Lean on bank 1 and 2.
Could that be from the CAI? It's been in the car two weeks and about 400 miles. My ported throttle body has been on for over a year with no issues. I don't want a tune so it looks like I am going back to the stock intake and selling this one.

I don't think you should have to go back to stock, and you don't need a tune with throttle body and intake. Could be some bad gas or something simple. I haven't had any codes with my intake. Take it in and see what they say.

That does sound unusual. I have CAI intake and Vmax PTB and haven't seen any problems with the combination on my LFX. Maybe try some MAF cleaner and check all the hose connections to make sure one of them hasn't come loose. If one of the PCV hoses is loose you could be pulling unmetered air into the intake. Even then the ECM should notice the readings on O2 sensors and feedback should correct it. You could shoot a PM to the CAI rep that posts on C5 for other suggestions.
Good luck! |

ok - so I have this exact same surging issue. I have the CAI and ported throttle body as well. This only started happening after installing the TB but I have not had any codes thrown. Also, the surging generally occurs when the car is cold - after it has been driven and warmed up the problem usually goes away. DD - with over 32K - about 20K with the CAI and TB.

I cleaned the MAF sensor and didn't help, I then disassembled the entire intake then reassembled it. Now everything is back to normal. I am keeping my fingers crossed that maybe I had a loose hose in the clean side of the PVC that was allowing it to pull in air around it. It seemed a little loose when I took everything apart.

Well I drove it quite a bit yesterday and to say and the light or surging has not returned. It sure was nice getting out today with it 70 degrees and the top down.
