Swapping a ZL1 rear end into an SS

I have been looking around and can't find too much detail on this.

I read that there was a shop that succefully swapped it but I couldn't locate much detail on how it went or costs.

Any feedback would be cool. Thanks everyone.

ADM was the shop, GMPP will be releasing a retrofit kit early next year which will likely be a better priced package deal.

I have a ZL1 diff that ADM Performance installed. I am loving it, it has zero vibration or noise issues. I tried the after market route with disappointing results.. IDK much about the install other than the 3" Magnaflow exhaust, had to be modified to fit around the huge ZL1 diff.. A different exhaust may Not require modification?? There may be other issues with installation?? ADM Performance does things first & can give all the install details. As far as cost? My guess is parts will be cheaper than the 9" aftermarket option. Different options available, is a good thing. Good Luck shopping.

Very good to hear. Realistically I am trying to decide whether I will be taking the 9 inch route or wait for the Retro kit gmpp will release. I like how beefy the zl1 diff is but worried on how it will hold up to 1000 hp

I'm far from 1000HP, but would love to know the results. There is only 1 way to know. I have a friend that has over 1000HP & has been thru several sets of after market axles.. At that power level, even the best can break & will break. Just be ready to replace parts.

Haha yeah I am always prepared. I am not there yet either, but my plans over the winter might just take me very close to it. So if rather get something with s closer capability compared to a stock one that will just explode when I try to move haha.

What does it take to swap to a ZL1 rear? If there much fabrication to it?

I just bought a Zl1 diff looking to put into my 2ss I do know you have to change the rear cradle. I asked Maureen @ Rodgers to get me a price on axles hubs, driveshaft, and oil cooler. The parts I bought are out of wrecked car with 3000 on the clock. I hope they are in as good shape as stated we will see. The parts I am looking for were either wrecked or sold. Will keep you posted on the install.

I don't know how this could be true. The Chevrolet Performance Catalog has a ZL1 HD Driveline Upgrade kit (Pg. 20) that includes the ZL1 Rear End, axles, and driveshaft, and all necessary hardware. No mention of needing a new cradle. Just sayin'..... In fact, I'm not even sure you would have to change the hubs???

What kind of loss power-wise, if any, is there from swapping in a ZL1 rear?

GM is selling the ZL1 as an upgrade kit and you do not have to change the sub-frame.

I would suggest installing Pedders EP1201HD sub-frame bushes and EP1167HD differential bushes with the ZL1 driveline upgrade.

That is exactly what I was waiting for I was going to spend almost 2K on axles and driveshaft alone, but now this looks like a much better option
