quick question on Dealer Installed Options

I'm looking for a vehicle, and not wanting to order new, but my question is on Dealer Installed Options, like the red seat belts, red knee pads, wheel locks, etc. Are these items truly installed by the dealer, like the red knee pads... does the car arrive at the dealership and the dealer removes to current knee pads and installs the red ones? What do they do with the ones they removed? Do you get them with the car?? I'm just curious if I find a car with this option, what my expectations are.

Thanks

Technically, you should get any part that the dealer removed back at delivery. Not all dealers offer this, though, and you often have to ask. If the car is sitting on the lot, they might have pitched the parts already. Kneepads are definitely removed and replaced at the dealer. For wheel locks, usually they give you the lock remover with the four lugnuts they replaced with locks nuts in the pack. I think red seatbelts come from the plant if you order them with your car, though. But I could be, and often am, wrong.

I was going to say, WHAT?! My car (order) has the red pads and red belts. I don't want the dealer ripping into a brand new car to install damn seat belts.

I’ve seen some dealers keep the extra parts. Then I’ve seen some where the parts were sitting in the trunk. It’s a safe bet to ask them about them. I believe in most cases you get both sets when it comes to dealer installed add ons, if they replace existing parts.

I did a bit more research. It appears the red seat belts come installed from the factory, if they were ordered with the car. The knee pads are installed at the dealership.

Answer on the knee pads is it depends. One RPO is factory installed, red 2F5, white and black are dealer installed. In 2022 the red were also available as dealer installed, WHA. Was vey confusing to me when I ordered. Seat belts are factory only.

At the end of my car delivery video the driver opens the door and you can see the red knee pads.
