To Gear, or Not to Gear...

[please vote]

I can get a discount on 3.91 gear install with recalibration if I have it installed at the same time as my Pfadt solid subframe bushings (my Pfadt Stage III ZL spec kit is on the way...hopefully).

I wasn't planning to do the gear swap so soon...but it is tempting now that I can get it for a little less...

Should I...
1. Do the gear swap now,
2. Spend the ~$1K on an intake (I want the ADM race intake) plus some other nice no-tune updates (race pedals, MGW STS, 1LE oil separator).
3. Hold onto the ~$1K and keep saving for a wheel/tire upgrade

Right now I'm pretty much stock except for M2W and skip shift eliminator.

^Agreed. Even if the rest of the car is stock, it will make a very noticeable difference.

It's worth it to do it now. They're giving you a good discount now because installing sub-frame bushings involves dropping the cradle which holds the differential. So while it's down in out, it's worth it to do it now rather then to pay twice and go over the work a second time.

Whatever you were saving up for before, you can do it again.

The 3.91s rock in the LS3 cars. If you can save some money getting it done while the rear sub frame is out it is a win/win. The hard part is actually getting your hands on them.

It's unanimous. It's time for gearing.

I'm surprised...expected a mix...

The big factor I'm hesitating on with the gear is the warranty implications of this race shop performing the speedometer re-calibration, and GM treating it as a non-GM tune.

So you need to decide what you want, warranty or no warranty. I wouldn't put a poll out there for gears if you're not sure you want to void the warranty! I held out for about a year and 1/2 until the bug for fun mods bit me big time, then the warranty went out the window!
