Once you prove, using the method I suggested above, that the dealer sold you a car without cats, see this link here: http://www.tceq.texas.gov/airquality...tampering.html . In the state of TX, there is a $25000 fine for selling a used car without catalytic converters. I would see if you could convince the dealer that it would be worthy of his/her time and money not to get a call from the TCoEQ.

I contacted customer service and he asked if I could bring it into a dealership to have it reinspected, but not after I get under there with a camera in about 10 minutes.

If you would like, I can review your case and see if things seem to go smoothly. Please let me know.

If you could prove that the ECU was flashed with another tune before you purchased the car, then you could prove that they sold you a car without cats.
This is the second best advice I've heard on these forums.

This is the best. Dreamer is on a roll today, but a lottery ticket!

seems to me that if they sold it to you as a used "certified" car they should have records of that inspection, I'd ask to see them. ! Most states I believe are required to do an emissions test before resale and that information should be on record also. Your state DMV may be able to check this for you

Since the OP is from Texas I looked this up.

Quote:
Texas law prohibits any person from selling, offering for sale, leasing, or offering to lease any vehicle not equipped with all emission control systems or devices in good operable condition. Violators are subject to penalties under the Texas Clean Air Act of up to $25,000 per violation. Buyers are advised to have the vehicle checked for all required emission control devices prior to purchasing a new or used vehicle.

A vehicle may not be legally sold if its original engine has been replaced with another certified engine but without the related emission control components. Tampering includes the failure to install the emission controls associated with an engine configuration.
I guess according to this the buyer is responsible to inspect or have the car inspected before purchasing. Otherwise you have no proof that the car was correct at the time it was bought.

State to state it may be, as well as gm certified does some with a 3-day 150 mile. Link. But if they're talking about the right to rescission, most are misinformed as in most states only applies to purchases at other than the business store of operations such as a door-to-door salesman where all information is unavailable to the purchaser.

As for new cars, I know Buick has a 60-day return policy that can be waived for an additional $500 off the purchase price.

Yes, but the dealer apparently did not catch the issue during their inspection

B@tman,

If what dreamer says doesn't work, call up Chevy customer support. It's really amazing what they can do to keep their customer satisfied. I had a little trouble last month with the dealer and they straightened them out quick. Nothing to the degree that you're at, but I'm sure they'll move heaven and Earth to get your future purchase. Always worth a try!
