Has anyone fought a traffic ticket from a cop hiding on private property.

So i got my 1st ticket and it's for an illegal U-turn. Since im in the wrong i would of just simply paid it it it were $80.00-100.00 even though in my heart the fact the cop was hiding on personal private property is not ok, but the ticket is $227.00. I went and talked to the property owner(kwik mart)and asked if they had given the police permission to hide on their property to give tickets, and he said no. In fact he has actually told them to leave cause your presence is hurting his business. Has anyone fought a ticket for something similar and if so what was your outcome?

Because it is illegal for the cop to be on private property ticketing people. Still....personal accountability....

Thats up to you though.

Figure each state is different. I fought a speeding ticket where the cop was on private property. I had many other items that were not correct, came down to the judge saying. I don't care and am siding with the cop no matter what, you can appeal to the next level if you want. So, depends on how much you want to potentially spend to fight it.

Don't you have some kind of traffic school/education thing you could attend to get it reduced?

They used to run a program up here like that in our region and provincial government said no way we want our cut of the ticket

I'm not sure what state you're from so I cant definitively give specific feedback... but I doubt it's illegal for the police to be on private property... also, in the state of Georgia the ONLY law that requires any form of visibility is Speeding... which is 500 ft for local and county municipalities for the vehicle in which the speed detection device is being operated (It can be operated from any vehicle, patrol car, school bus, pickup truck, tractor, etc etc)... State Patrol can hide all they want. Therefore, any other law that your violating they can hide all they want...

Not trying to argue about the point just trying to clarify a bit.

Much sarcasm. So wow.

Not trying to be redundant, just clarifying. If it was me, I wouldn't fight it. To each their own, however.

Lol never understood why people get mad at getting caught..you did it.. Own it.

A class at Harvard once said the majority of people's conscience is only derived from consequence.. There is no actual good.. But the fear of doing bad..

If the "private property" is a shopping center parking lot or similar and is open to the public then the cop like anyone else has a right to be there. It doesn't matter where the cop was if he testifies that he saw you commit the violation then your pretty much toast.

I don't know Ca law, but this makes complete sense. So I would have to say that in knowing because it's California that your statement makes too much sense to be law there.

Red face

Here in N.Y. if there is no sign posted that you can't make a u turn you can beat a ticket like that. It happen to me a few years ago. I went to the judge and said there wasn't a sign posted that I couldn't make a u turn. He asked the cop if there was a sign posted and cop replied no. Charge was drop.
