Blind spot warning (yes, my mirrors are adjusted correctly!)

I'm looking at the available blind-spot warning systems in the aftermarket, and not finding what I'd prefer, so I'm hoping the community here has some ideas.

I've seen the other threads here and elsewhere on the subject. Yes, my mirrors are properly adjusted, so let's avoid all those responses, please. I want this in addition to my mirrors, not in place of them - this is about the tech, not mirror aiming techniques.

From what I can tell, different car manufacturers have come up with a couple different ways of doing this. Some use ultrasonic or IR sensors on the sides of the bumper covers aimed to the side of the car, while others mount a small IR camera or radar sensor on the bottom of the outside mirror and aimed aft. All of the generic aftermarket add-on kits I've found for this use the former system (in fact, they all seem to be the exact same kit, with different branding.) The latter type is what I would prefer, either as (best option) a complete replacement mirror assembly, or an add-on made to mount on the mirror housing.

So: Has anyone found such an animal as the mirror-mount type in the aftermarket? Has anyone installed either type system on their ride and can give feedback on them?
