Yeah, really surprised about the Volt. I don't want a full electric or autonomous car. And the Volt had the best answer to the higher range needs.

Is it possible they are just going to move the Cruze to another plant, or that the Volt gets the axe because there are other cars in the works?

Cruze is already being built in Mexico (possibly other places as well). Thats where all the Cruze Hatchbacks are built. And I thought that GM signalled (or something leaked) around 6 months to a year ago that the Volt was coming to an end 'soon'.
And with the Volt, no matter how good of a solution it actually is ... it doesn't sell. Probably because its an excellent compromise. The people who want an EV don't want to compromise with a hybrid (despite GM insisting its an EV). People who want to save some money at the pump won't pay thousands up front for it. The middle ground that it occupied is a no-mans land. And now the market trend is towards crossovers, which reduces its appeal even further.

Apparently Cruze production will continue out of the Mexico plant for sedans/hatchbacks but it doesn't look like the US market will get any of them.
Of all the cuts, I think this is the most short-sighted. The sedan market is obviously dying rapidly but cutting Cruze instead of the ancient and equally slow selling Sonic seems like a bad decision to me. At least Cruze is a relatively fresh and modern product. Seems like the only reason Sonic receives a stay of execution is because it comes out of the same plant as Bolt EV.

Fact is, some topics basically become lost causes and aren't worth recovering. We can spend a couple hours going through them, deleting the offending posts, and it will just blow up again later. That being said, I will be watching this thread and deleting all future comments to the recently announced GM plant closures (or whatever they're officially called). -DG

Sounds like CT6 and LaCrosse will remain in production/sale in China.

So are we to presume the GM plant closure topic is a no-go zone on Camaro5/6 from here on out? Simply cannot talk about it?

If this thread was shut down I'd be very frustrated...its my "go to" thread on this forum for something interesting to read.
That said, in my opinion its obvious why the plant closure threads are being closed....b/c they all become a battle ground for politics. If it weren't for that, I'd say there is no reason to shut them down. Anyways...moving on.

Wasn't the Escalade Sport announced in LA? Or was that just a press released timed to coincide with LA.

Yes. But it's just a blackout package for Escalade.

Sure ... but, technically, its not nothing. A half step away from nothing? Absolutely. But not quite nothing.
