Man, I feel soory for you guys who are paying that much, I got mine Monday and it was only $187. Is there really that much difference from state to state or does it have something to do with the amount of money you put down on it when you bought the car?

Who knows really these days.. I bought my car April 1st and just received my plates yesterday but it could take up to at least 6 months. If you havent received anything by then you need to go back to the dealership where you purchased the vehicle and find out whether they did/did not pay the registration on your car, which could be the hold up.

I plan to keep my plates off till the 6 months is up here and then put them on.

I love the last line of that article...

"If California receives $10 billion or more from the federal stimulus package signed by President Obama, the tax increase would drop by half to 0.125 percent."

Nice... we get to share our pitiful book-keeping with the other 49 states. (otherwords...they get to pay for our bad book keeping)

What happens when a failed economy bails out a failed economy? I guess we shall see...

For the most part it is how New your car is... see how cheap BackinBlack's 2 older cars are?

Edit: I suppose this goes on the logic... if you can afford a newer model, you can afford higher registration.

I agree, every year the registration should decrease a few bucks. had a 92 buick that cost me like 26 bucks to register. a 99 eclipse gst cost me 119 one year and 80 the next.

i was reading the CA dmv website about the registration fees and its a number of things, how new it is, how much it cost, driveable/non driveable etc etc.

its rediculous that my dad only paid 300 to register his 09 corvette C6 in kansas.

We have all been Governated.

Just came in the mail, mine was a 2009 Aug. purchase, I'm somewhat surprised at $487 with special plate fee, I thought it would be more. What's interesting if you're late a month plus 1 day the fee goes to $765. Ouch!
