1991 RS question

Do you guys think this would be worth buying?

My wife's uncle owns an auto body shop, so getting it painted is not a problem.

1991 Chevy Camaro RS. 5.0L V8, automatic, 161,xxx miles, new radiator, altenator, starter, battery, tune up. Body is in good condition, but it needs new paint. The front bumper and hood were replaced due to small fender bender. No other parts were damaged. The brakes were just replaced. Clean, good running transportation car! $1400 obo. Call for more info, cell: 951-533-2132, home: 951-928-9609, ask for Marty. If I don't answer, leave me a message and I will get back to you asap. Thanks!

If you are buying it beacuse you just want to cruise then go for it. If you are buying it bacause you think it will be fast than dont get it. I never understood the 305. IMO the best thing to do with a 305 is yank it out and throw it in the nearest dumpster and start over with a 350. Yet people will still install cams, and heads to these cars....I just never got it. But for a transportaion only car why not. If you like it buy it

ok this is how I would handle it,
I would call him to look at the car, have about 1200-1300 in cash with me,
take it out for a test drive, & ask to see Title, If it has a savage or rebuilt title, walk away from it, Unless you can take it to a shop to have it checked out.

if it has a good clean title on car, then I would offer him just under$1000 for the car, say $850-900 for it, if it accepts it take the car, if not haggle with him, but dont go over what you took with you, always have like 100 left over.

I'm still waiting for him to post pictures of the interior and the engine and he has dropped the price to $1200. I'm not looking for something fast, I just want something to drive to and from work. I can always drop an LS1 in it later. Thanks for the advice.

Well, I would take it (for the right price) and drop a crate 350 in it. BUT - thats not to say anything about the 305 being hella-slow or anything... My 1986 had an LE9 305 (1986 HO truck 305, Carbed, rated at 210 HP and 250 ft/lbs). But, with an edelbrock 650 carb/performer RPM intake manifold, upgraded ignition, full exhaust, and emissions system removal (not like a crate 350 would pass anyway) it was chasing stock LT1s. Not quite as fast, but it was in the mid-high 13's and had a LOT of room for improvement. Definitely as fast as any 350 crate buildup. Don't knock it till you rock it, or something.

I just bought a '90 RS, and these are great cars, and for only $1200 your getting a good deal, my cars in the same shape pretty much, runs great but just needs paint really, and I use it as a daily driver, but then again mine only has 56,000 on it......but if you got the cash man, go for it, you wont be dissapointed

My dad had one of those cars with an M5, bone stock. I loved it. It wasn't fast, but it was still fun. He sold it with 140,000 miles and the original clutch was still holding strong!

Yep, that's those cars to a T. Not fast, but still fun. My old '91 RS 305 5-speed is about to turn 200,000 miles, on the original clutch!!
