Opinions. Used camshaft
Like the title says.
What are your opinions on used camshafts. Would you buy one. Just remember many years ago, the lifters would create a wear pattern on the cam and reusing would cause issue with either the cam or the new lifters... JUst curious..

I’ve bought and sold used cams. I’d have no issues running so long as it checks out ok.

How many times are you going to open up the block to replace a cam or lifters? Hopefully only once lol. So why save on a few bucks and just buy new imo.

I would buy new. Multiple shops have their cams made by the same manufacturers and not too long ago those manufacturers were having issues with metallurgy and failing cams. 8620 cores and a good company is what you want.

No thank you. The risk isn't worth the reward in my opinion.

If you do your own work, not that much to be afraid of as long as you can see what you're getting before you pay for it. If you pay someone 3k to swap a cam, not that much savings for you. I bought both the cams in the turbo car and the vert used. It all depends on your intentions and how close to the ragged edge you are running. It's not like the old flat tappet days. These cams are all roller so not a lot of wear.

I might use one on a throw together build, but not anything nice. I'm swapping mine now and I'll keep the one in there, but I wouldn't buy a used one for my stuff. Like already said, it's cheap, why skimp on it?

It’s not like they are items where you’ve got a finite life where they need replaced. It’s literally just a piece of machined metal - it’s either still good or it isn’t.
