Problems driving the speed limit
I live in a fairly rural part of upstate NY with mainly 2 lane highways. There are also an extra-ordinary number of granola eating, tree-hugging Subaru and Prius driving eco-nazis in the area. These people rarely drive faster than 10 mph under the speed limit and don't let me get started about accelerating from a stop sign or stop light. 0-60 times measured in hours. Now with the price of gas so high, full size pickups are in on the act. It's not unusual to get behind a line of cars traveling 40-45mph in a 55 zone. The lead douche will turn off and the next leader still goes at that pace. Drives me nuts! I don't want to fly, maybe 5-7 over is good. I pass on double yellow lines at least twice a day (always in a safe setting for these slow speeds.) Luckily I have a skip shift elim or my 1st-4th gate would be worn out. But it is satisfying to smoke the tires in 2nd while passing a Prius, flipping them off while they lay on the horn at you. I miss the days when I lived in metro Detroit, when if you were lucky enough to be moving at all you were doing 90. Anybody lucky enough to be able to drive at least the limit where you live?

Yeah I get to drive the limit where I am at but the limits are so slow. 80-90 kmh (50-55 mph) on the highways. The car can handle so much more. 110 (70 mph) would be a much nicer speed limit.

Yeah... California freeways are horrible. You have to weave around cars to actually go somewhere.

I always try to stay within 10 mph over the speed limit on highways and 5 mph in residential areas. I just like to have fun with initial pickup at red lights.

I had the same experience today (only I was driving my silverado). I was behind a Lexus SUV going 35-40 in a 50 mph zone that I had to follow for nearly 10 miles. Her license plate said "special 1" and had an Obama bumber sticker...amazing what a vehilce can tell ya about the driver. I cringe everytime I get behind a prius or subaru outback/legacy wagon.

Just another reason I'm happy to live where I do. Very minimal traffic, and most folks travel well above the speed limit. If I set the cruise at 78mph on the interstate, I'll get passed more times in the Camaro than I do passing.

Yeah I now what u mean here its like they actually slow down when u are behind them. Like if I change lanes a lot of times I see break lights flash. I don't tailgate so its funny especially when they are closer to the car infront of them than I am to them. The need to speed up an block lane changes, particularly when there is nothing but open road in front of them. Its annoying but what are u going to do

I wonder if they ever realize the cars are geared to most fuel effiecient around 55 mph?
In this area I get the occasional ding dong on the back roads that are deathly afraid of the turns and stay 10 below, luckily it's not that often.

i know EXACTLY what you mean! not sure about the new Camaros but my skip shift isnt annoying at all, it only comes on if i come off the line real slow and if i hold first just a tad longer then usual it goes off and i go into second...quite often my skip shift light doesnt even come on.
i also see people that do 45 in a 55 and then continue to do 45 in a 30...they just maintain 45 the whole time... |

Around here I have to watch out for all of the Amish buggies, I hate coming over a hill at or below the speed limit and hitting the brakes hard because a 10 year old kid is driving a buggy down the middle of the road. I work second shift and the worst part is coming home at 1:00 in the morning and they won't turn their lights until you get right behind them.

It depends on my mood... if I catch myself feeling surly towards other drivers I take a breath and back off. Of course if there's a safe clear spot I'll pass them but I'd rather hang back than take a rock.
We get a lot of fast-lane pace cars going 55 in a 60 or the cruise control passer going 61 who passes a guy going 60 and that takes forever... and a special hell is reserved for that guy who hangs traffic at 45 mph in the fast lane up for 5 miles because he's going to turn someday. Not everyone is as intelligent and canny behind the wheel as me, so I have to forgive them their ignorance and boorish road manners. Once they are in my rear view mirror! |
