What do you do to load your Camaro on a trailer?
Hi, so we are moving next weekend to Colorado and my wonder beautiful girlfriend bought us this trailer. I have towed trailers before but hauling my baby is just a little more important then quads. I practiced loading my Camaro last night but the ramps are only 4' and i had to make some ramps to get it on the trailer, but the drive way has an angle and this will be a different story on flat ground.. I am just wanting your different ideas and the easiest way to get my car on the trailer. I know about raceramps and will be getting them in the future but right now i need ideas/videos of what has worked for you. Thanks

Put some wood under the ramps so the angle of approach isn't so bad maybe?

One of the biggest issue with our cars is the tie downs. Be careful that the straps don't hit the front splitter.

EEK! She already bought this trailer? I guess you’re stuck with it but it’s a flatbed trailer not designed for a car. This makes me nervous. I towed a vehicle only once but I rented a Uhaul trailer designed for that purpose. Front wheels have straps and tightened with a ratchet. It was great and I didn’t worry about the car. Check out link for video.

Drive it straight on. When I bought mine I towed it home on a similar trailer with 4' ramps without issue. Worst case put a 2X4 on the ground right at the end of the ramp to take that first bit off the angle. For tie downs I went two straps around the second cross rail in the front pulling diagonally to each corner and two straps around the rear axle pulling straight back. See my pic you can kinda see the straps. Another option is use four straps through each wheel, wheels are one of the strongest parts of a car.

I just looked at your trailer again, it doesn't have the duckbill at the end like mine, that could get tricky loading. I still think maybe a 2X4 under the ramp and a couple on the ground should give you enough to get up it. Or could you back it up to a driveway with a slope leaving the trailer in the street to take some of the distance to the ground off it?
Where in Colorado are you moving to? |

I ordered 6' ramps and it's still tight, you're going to need a race ramp or 2x10 wood ramps in the short term.
Other short term option is backing it up to a curb where you can drive from the higher section onto the ramp that is raised up 6". Not always an easy proposition finding a location that works with the length of a car hauler on a public road. |

Get the straps designed to tie the tires down.

Thanks, yeah, it's not the tie downs, it's the angle to get on the trailer.

The short race ramps I got to make getting a jack under the car easier bubbled and look like crap after a single use. I'll probably go with a wood or home-made steel extender before doing my front aero because I refuse to buy more of their garbage. I'm baffled by the good reviews unless they've changed their manufacturing technique recently. Or maybe they can only handle miatas despite our cars being well under their weight limits.

Get yourself some 8' or 10' 2x10's and jack up the front of the trailer as much as you can. Make sure you load it forward enough to put some tongue weight on it so while traveling you don't get to much sway. I have seen people leave all the weight over the trailer wheels and get into a death sway on the highway. Pretty scary stuff.
I always use my load leveling hitch from my travel trailer when ever towing any heavier weights.
