Turn signals that can't be fixed

Hi guys, this issue is driving me nuts.

I have a US imported 2016 Camaro RS bought here in Europe.
Unfortunately, the turn signals hyper-flash after 2 seconds when activating them. Hazard lights work fine.

The mechanic wasn't able to figure out the issue yet and he showed me that the rear signal lights are connected to the front lights. Meaning that when he tried to turn on the front turn signals with their tools, the back turn signal also lights up. He said this shouldn't be the case and he doesn't know why this is the way it is. I'm guessing it's somehow related to the EU adaptation of this US model.

He asked for the wiring diagram for the lights.
Where can I find it?

...can you come again on why rear turn signals wouldn't work in sync with the front ones?

As to diagrams, they are in the service manual available from Helm:

Paperback: https://www.helminc.com/helm/product...16F&itemtype=N
Electronic on a USB stick (encrypted PDF file): https://www.helminc.com/helm/product...USB&itemtype=N

Alternatively, you can buy a 3-day ACDelco TDS subscription and download as many pages as possible.

Maybe the previous owner installed LED bulbs in the front without resistors and that's your problem.
Have you pulled the front bulbs to confirm they are halogen?

This is the place to start! Make sure all the bulbs are standard.

From your previous posts, your wiring looks absolutely butchered. You may have to work your way back to solve the problem

Yes the wiring is an absolutel mess. The mechanic asked me if I have the diagram for the lighting so he can reverse-engineering it and find out the issue.

We tried putting all the turn signals to incandescent and it still didn't fix the issue.

The mechanic said the rear signal lights are connected to the front lights and they shouldn't. He said usually the rear lights use a different line on the ECU but in my car, the ECU is connected to the front lights, which are then connected to the rear lights and some weird issue is happening.

To show me, he connected some tool called On-Board Diagnostics (I think) to the car and through his computer, he tried turning on the front right turn signal light. When he did, it turned on correctly BUT it also turned on the rear-right turn signal light, which is not what's supposed to happen. Basically, if something wrong happens to the front-right light, the rear-right light goes away as well. Could you confirm this shouldn't be the case?

If the turn signals are missing the resistors (they don't, we tried adding it as well), then why the hazard lights work well without hyper-flashing? Only when activating the turn signals we encounter the problem.

By the way, I've read on this forum that the RS is supposed to have LED rear turn signals but mine were incandescent. But I discovered that in US you have red turn signals, while in EU they are amber, so they probably did something to change and adapt them.

Any kind soul would tell me which is the exact page for the lights wiring diagram?

I bought the whole manual from here: https://servicemanualspdf.sellfy.store/p/m8jd/

Thank you!

This is what I think as well. Could you give me some pointers on how to start? I'm an absolute beginner in this and I could work with a mechanic on this as well. I'm eager to learn.

Ah, this is quite a big mess on your hands, hope you'll be able to sort it out with your mechanic.

I have the 2018 service manual, which will not be exactly the same as your 2016, but lighting is covered in section 4, from page 4-88 to 4-294.

The diagrams are laid out from page 4-89 to 4-105 (yep, lots of them), followed by diagnostic procedures from page 4-106 to 4-236, and finally wiring and repair instructions for each component and system descriptions all the way to page 4-294.

Thank you. Who is the best role to fix this kind of issues? A specialized automotive electrician?

Again, we haven't seen your car and all the hacking that was done to its wiring, but a good general mechanic or automotive tech should be able to untangle the mess. I don't think this calls for a true specialist. Go buy the service manual or the 3-day ACDelco subscription and give your mechanic the drawings.

Thanks arpad_m, can you confirm this is the correct manual?
