To each their own, I think it was more of the color, matching the belts and other accents on the car. LOL Again, you do you Ricky Bobby.

Resurrecting this mod back from the dead. Hell of a mod. I just installed it. It took a little smashing down of the rivets in order for the short bolt of the trunk latch to fit and it's already ten times easier to close this thing. I don't know if you frequent these forums at all OP, but if you do, thank you!

Also exactly what I do.

Here is a replacement strap for a Toyota four runner from Amazon that might fit a little better compared to possibly having to squish eyelets on the fiat strap. It come in black or red but does look a little longer than the fiat’s. I like the idea but I am still debating whether I want to cut a slot in the trunk liner

That's pretty cool man. I like that one as well. As far as cutting a slot. There is already so many random holes and slots on the trunk liner and those things are dirt cheap at the dealer if you want to replace it. I say do it. I'm definitely enjoying the new mod and it adds so much more functionality that was missing while closing the trunk.

What is the "trunk closing situation"?

I had a trunk opening situation, and it was fixed by adjusting the spring loaded posts (seen in the OP's first photo) to reduce tension.

The trunk closing situation is the fact that there is nothing to grab the lid with if you don't want to touch the body or the spoiler.
