Finally went somewhat under the car and looks like it’s the same situation for me

Hopefully it’s just isolated but on the potential possibility that batch of oil filters are at fault, I thought to share
Something somewhat similar also happened to me - my oil was changed by dealership in May and just a week before I took it in for another one this month, I noticed some oil on my garage floor under it.
Dealership did claim it was defective oil filter and gave me $100 off my oil change when I complained that this is not what I expect when I am paying for $200 oil changes.
So maybe there were some bad oil filters?

More than likely just some bad mechanics...

Lesson learned.
Did that on the very first car I ever owned. Made a mess. Cleaned it up. Learned my lesson once and for all time.

I have done hundreds of oil changes and never experienced a gasket staying behind when the old filter was removed.

I did once install a filter with a leaky crimp. It was an STP filter, not AC Delco, and was "free" with a purchase of oil at Auto Zone. I guess that's why it was free. LOL.

I like to clean and inspect my gasket seat on the car so it makes it pretty damn hard to miss a gasket still stuck

Never forget to finger apply a film of new oil to the filter gasket before screwing it on. And tighten by hand until snug, then add just a quarter turn more .

Sorry for the scare everyone, seems like it was a slightly bigger issue but isolated to just me.

Timing cover was leaking as well as the oil cooler, they resealed it and the oil pan (attached their reciept which was covered by warranty but damn that total)

My vote is no lube on the gasket and then it tears.
