Issues after installing cold air intake

I've installed K&N Cold air intake (63-3092) and since then I've noticed several issues pop up that were not there prior to install.

1.) Really bad rev hang, if I rev the engine in first or reverse it will hold at like 2-3k RPM's. If I rev it up while clutched in or in neutral, the revs will drop very very slowly.

2.) Power loss, I've noticed that the car feels far more sluggish and this was evident when I did a 40 roll with a bud's Focus ST and I was neck to neck with him rather than flying past him like I used to.

3.) Radiator Fan comes on randomly at full speed every once in awhile.

Any ideas as to a possible fix for these issues?

I have not installed a cold air intake onto a fuel injected engine, so I do not have any first hand experience with this.

However, with your symptoms it sounds like you have a vacuum leak (false air) entering the system like an intake gasket leak or a vacuum hose not connected properly. This would typically cause the revs to hang.

Otherwise, you will need a tune. But others may be able to chime in here if that is neccesary.

did you get any codes? i've seen where people didn't install it correctly like on the throttle body or MAF sensor, recheck and go from there.

I would check for leaks first. Make sure all your fittings are secure and tight.

Vacuum leak or your filter is over oiled.

Did you disconnect the negative battery terminal before you unplugged the MAF sensor?

I highly doubt it is that I didn't unplug mine either, didn't see any reason to. Sounds like you have a vacuum leak somewhere and you are getting unmetered air into the engine.

Actually it can, on the 6th gen cars there are several modules that stay online and active. The MAF can trip errors if unplugged while the ECM still has power.

I never used to pull the battery, but now I do on the 6th gen due to random errors when sensors are unplugged while the battery is still connected.

Check your throttle body bolts/gasket.

@Tjay74 how do I check if it is the MAF sensor? And if so, how can I resolve it? I have checked for any leaks, tightened all my bolts but the problem still persists

Cant really check it unless you have something like HP Tuners, otherwise you can have the auto parts store check for codes.

Only other option is to put the OEM air kit back into the car.
