I had the GPI I VVT cam also and now I'm having the BTR stage 3 cam installed. The installer said we will drive it around first to see if it needs a new torque converter. I'm thinking it should get one, at least 2800.

I daily drive mine with a BTR Stage 3, lots of highway miles. I installed the cam in the fall of 2017, probably around 85k miles at the time. Now I'm at about 150k miles. I change the springs and seals annually. Love it.

I run the TSP Stage 3 with a 3200 stall for 2 years, and getting ready to upgrade the stall to a Circle D 5C 4000-4200, 3200 with this cam just wasn't enough. Put 14k so far on the build, love it.

About 14k miles a year on a GP Tuning 2.5 cam. Only had it in for a little over a year and plan to change springs at the ~28k mile mark next year. Makes me smile every day. Can't imagine going back to a non-cammed car. It's just too darned cool.

Why do people have to change valve springs so often? Im looking at a stage 2 gpi vvt and the high end springs, retainers etc. but why do they get changed every year or so?

The general consensus for changing these stiffer springs is 20,000-25,000 miles. The springs get weaker as they wear and eventually can crack or break, which you definitely don't want. It is not an issue for those that are running low lift OEM beehives or comparable springs, as most of those are meant to last 100k+ miles. Most cam manufacturers will recommend which spring to use with their cam and when to replace them.

I only have 3,000 miles on mine but plan to change them every 20k miles just to stay safe. I am running the BTR Platinum .660 dual springs with titanium retainers - Very common springs around here.

Well said sir, and the fact that our cams have way more lift than a stock cam it puts a lot of strain on them too. I am running the same springs and such and plan to change them out at 20k, just to stay safe and keep it all working properly.

id be going GPI ss2 VVT cam ( recommended vvt since i daily. not to do ls3 conversion ) so the springs i should get last how long? it would take me 3-4 years to hit 30k miles for sure.

It depends on the lift and the ramp rates on the lobes. Most cam designs use a softer ramp these days, but some still use the older-style lobes from the early 00's, such as Lingenfelter. Im not sure what GPI uses, but you could ask them. With my cam, for example, 30-40k shouldn't be a problem due to reasonable lift and "easy" lobes

I daily mine. That cam you want is just within the hardcore territory, but still could be your daily if you only do 4,500 miles a year.
I'm curious, what did you cam install cost? I just cammed mine in my garage and I am wondering.
