Is it worth it?

Hey guys, I'm new so don't beat me up too bad. I'm currently driving a G8 GT and love the car, but I guess I'm going through my mid-life crisis and I'm looking at a Gen5 ZL1 that's on a local lot. The car is orange with 7500 miles on it. It's totally stock and looks and smells brand new. A guy traded it in for a new Z06. I'm in love with the car, but they're asking 39k for it and wont come off of it. They said they were in to it for 38,500. I'm seriously considering it, but I know that with the new ones coming out, the prices for gen5's are coming down. Are these really that much fun and worth it?

Does it have all the options you're looking for? If it's in great shape, and you're happy with it, I don't think it's a bad deal. The alternative is that if it isn't there next week, then you could be kicking yourself.

A one owner Gen5 ZL1 in great condition with 7,500 miles is worth $39K. This was likely a $60K plus car 7,500 easy and well cared for miles ago. The problem is that many owners are dumping the cars at a loss for the next best thing. That and the hype over the Gen6 ZL1 drives the market down. Good for buyers, bad for sellers... And yes, it is worth it.

What area of MS are your from?

Short answer is yes, 39K for a ZL1 with under 7.5K miles is about right, where I live.

However, you left out a lot of details...Year, options, tranny, etc.

IOM is a rare color in ZL1's so you found something unique at least.

It's hard to resist the siren song of that first drive in a ZL1. You will lose all common sense after a test drive, so buyer beware. It will make you do things that other cars can't...

Good luck and post pics when you own it. And don't worry too much about the price you get it for if you're planning to keep it for a while.

Ive been searching for months for a ZL1, and finally bought one a few week ago...One thing ive learned is that pricing for these things is all over the place... The price seems about average to me, maybe a touch high but i dont think i would consider it overpaying at 39k....I just bought my 2014 for $100 under what they gave the previous owner for trade in on it...Luckily i was able to find the original ower and asked what they gave him on trade, and surprisingly the dealership wasnt lying about it..They came down to what i wanted to pay since didnt want to sit on it over the winter.

Oh ya.... and YES these cars ARE that much fun and worth it..

Thanks guys. I live in Hattiesburg. I think the car has every option except recaro seats with a sunroof and automatic trans. It's a 1 owner, non smoker, no wrecks, and adult owned. It's honestly just like new.

I used to own a G8 GT too! I miss that car so much, one of the best cars for the money and will always be one of my favorites.

But I came from a Mustang GT and the ZL1 is more than worth it, I paid 37.2k w/ 5050 miles on it. I have absolutely 0 regrets and would do it again. This car has more than surpassed my expectations and is an absolute blast to drive. I have never owned a car this like before. Get them down on price and buy it! Good luck.

And whenever a dealer says they are in it for a certain amount its absolute BS. They dont want that car sitting on their lot any longer, put an offer in and see what they can do.

I also had an 09 G8 GT with minor mods. Loved the car but you won't even remember you had it once you get a Z.

I recommend test driving the car, BUT be warned if you do you will probably buy it. Speaking of buying, that's not a bad price for an ultra low mile, unmolested car. If you want it; buy it. And yes, it's worth it.

Once I test drove a 14' vert I knew that it was the car for me, before I got my 13'. You have been warned OP!
