No lift shift help for old school driver
Hi all,
I have a 2018 zl1 and have never attempted the no lift shift. I have a few questions and hoping to get some help. Is their any risk to damaging anything if done improperly? I’ve watched a few vids and they usually down shift to 3rd and go past 5500 rpms and stab the clutch , then up shift. can I do this off the line from 1st to second gear, and third etc. Or can it only be done from third gear and up . TIA for any help |

I wonder if the No Lift Shift feature was used during the eye popping Nurburgring run.

I believe it can be done under any gear as long as you're over the threshold RPM, it's fairly easy to do and fun! Stab the clutch, keep pedal down, and shift up!

yeah you can def do it in any gear. Im old school and use to do no lift shift before there was no lift shift. but yeah as long as your rpm is up there, you will be fine.. just do it. it cuts power when you shift. just make sure your accelerator pedal is 100%.

NLS and Rev Match are some of my favorite features on the Camaro.
Technology has come a long way since the days of speed shifting 5.0 Fox bodies, damaging synchronizers and breaking plastic clutch pawls.

I still find it hard to make my mind do the NLS consistently. I’m so use to always clutching in to shift.

I love NLS!
Anything over 5k rpms and I can leave my right foot planted and feel the grin on my face get bigger with each shift. Took about a day to get used to. First time I tried it, me and the wife couldn't stop maniacally laughing.

Feel free to take my opinion with a grain of salt, but I no longer use NLS. I used to use it fairly often when going WOT when I had my V6 1LE. And then around 30,000 miles my clutch didn’t come all the way back up. Turns out I overheated the clutch and glazed it.
Now to be fair the V6 uses the 3160 vs the 6060, so your mileage may vary. |

Best way to start learning the feel and gain confidence, do a 3-4 no lift shift at part throttle. Lets say your on the hiway, light traffic conditions etc. With no cars in front of you slow down to 50 mph, down shift to 3rd gear, hold steady 50-55 mph, then go to about 1/2 throttle, pull back on the shifter a little and the pull from being 1/2 throttle will allow the light pressure pull on the shifter with out going into neutral or 4th gear. Now keep the 1/2 throttle steady and do not lift, just stab the clutch and pull back harder on the shifter same time and bam, you will be in 4th gear and your throttle position never changes for the shift. Do that over and over and over and over. You eventually can increase throttle and hold steady, all the while pulling back on the shifter, stab the clutch, pull back on the shifter harder the same time and bam, you did a 3/4 throttle power shift or a No lift shift. Soon you can do a full throttle pull in 3rd gear , pull back on the shifter, blip the clutch and pull hard on the shifter same time with the gas to the floor. Do not worry about what RPM, just perform the shift at around 5 or 5500 RPM till your comfortable doing it at 6000 rpm and never lifting off the gas. Its impossible to do wide open throttle no lift shifts in 1st or 2nd gear on the street because of tire spin. But you can eventually do 1/2 throttle no lift shifts in 1st gear and second gear. The worst shift to conquer is 2-3 . Some guys that even have years of practice with power shifting manual cars (today called no lift shift shifting) will power shift 1-2, speed shift 2-3, power shift 3-4. |

I do it all the time but only 3 to 4 and 4 to 5. It doesn't always work well from 2nd to 3rd, I prefer just to lift for that.
