Where can I buy 3.91 gears?
I want to change my rear end gears to a 3.91 in my 2010 SS with M6 manual. I have had a hard time finding a place to buy these gears. Anyone have a source I can check out? Is there anything about these gears being installed that I need to know?
Any idea of cost to have them installed? Russ |

I'm not 100% sure but doesn't GM sell them? I'd like to know also.

Jannetty lists them on his site. I'd imagine a local Chevy dealer near you would have them as well. I know Rhino either has them in stock or can get them since he's based out of a dealership.

Apex is $40 cheaper than Ted and has free shipping. I looked at JDP but couldn't find them. Their site is hard to find stuff in though.

If you are looking at swapping the gears and using your carrier I have been quoted anywhere between 600 and 1200 dollars. 600 is providing it doesn't need any shims or anything. Plus the cost of fluid and gaskets. Most of the vendors have the gears.

Around $250 or less directly from GM.
Around $200 or less to install if you take the Pumpkin out of the car.... The shops around here anyway. Our local guy has installed 5 sets for our Club members in the last year. Not a single one needed any shims or anything..... About 1-1/2 hours to install..... 2 hours with beers.....Fits like a glove.

Is it easier/cheaper/better to buy the 3.91 gears ($200) and have a shop install them ($???)?
... or buy a full 1LE pumpkin ($1400, gmpartsdirect), swap it (???), and sell the old 3.45 pumpkin ($400-500)? After seeing a guy at the track have his brand new gears come apart in the burn out pit , the full pumpkin from GM is tempting.

I'm pretty sure we have them at the best price currently. Part # 22813040 for reference.
Feel free to call, PM or email me anytime with questions. We have 3 sets in stock and ready to go! Best regards, Tyler 888-308-6007 |
