I did my hood twice. Go slow, start from the center out. You may need a heat gun or a hair dryer if you need to stretch it. I used almost no heat the second time.

How hard is the vent to get out? Process?

Are you looking for a gloss or a matte black? if just a matte you can get yourself some plasti dip and do it yourself. Much cheaper than taking it to a paint shop or buying a new hood. And if you get tired of the look you can just peel it off.
+1 ^^^ This ^^^

Plasti-dip is quick and easy, and you can even put a couple of coats of Glossifier on it if you want a satin look. As rberns said, "if you get tired of the look you can just peel it off" with no damage to the original paint.

Don't spend the money to have it painted before you try this. It'll cost you $15 for the dip and glossifier and you can do it in a couple of hours.

Get a can of Glossifier and add as many coats as you want. It won't every be truly glossy, but it'll shine some.

Thanks! I will definitely try that out!

It will peel off just the same with the Glossifier on it as well?

My Lowes carries them and have both in stock. Think I found my weekend project.

Another option is to buy a stock black hood from someone else who is selling his / hers. It takes some time and luck to have the right color come available near enough to go get it, but it will be cheaper and easier.

Enough people put on aftermarket hoods and there isn't much demand for the stock ones. I bought a second hood, matching color, for $200 plus drove to get it. Often they go for $100. They are very very light and small enough to fit inside most SUVs (I have a Trailblazer). That would get you the gloss black you want and you could always switch back whenever you feel like it - hood swap takes about 15 minutes even being careful.

I'm think about doing the roof and trunk lid matte black against IOM. Already have the hood with a 14/15 heat extractor.

Im not any good when it comes to spray paint, in this case plasti dip. I dont want to do it on my hood and it come out like junk, which I believe it would because im not that's good. It is by far the cheapest route, but I think I'd screw it up and thats putting it lightly. I want to find a vid of someone putting the vinyl on with only one person as that is what I most likely will have to do.

5 minutes with a panel removal tool (drip tray) there are 7 of those plastic push pins fasteners, then six 7mm nuts holding the extractor itself in. You will be pulling the insulation out also. Two or four of those drip tray fasteners have that insulation sandwiched between them.

You need a buddy to help lay it on, then you can do the rest. Or tack one side, move to th other and peel the backing off and lay down the other. Just like laying a sheet down. The bigsplashgraphix vid is one person after laying it down.

I bet a fellow local member would help. I am helping one next week on his.

What is the panel removal tool? I figured a small flat nose could pop the plastic pins on the underside panel to get to the nuts holding the extractor on.
