When your car is built, your dealer will get the VIN. Without that VIN, the car hasn't been built and he's BSing you.

Mine did exactly the same .. at 3400, then 3800-4B00 in one day (with a VIN).

To have what happen? Your car be built while still at 3400 with no VIN? How did your dealer know it was built without either of those things? What else signifies that your car is built? 3800 = built. A VIN number = built (or at least in the build process). There's far more people that got their VIN # along with code 3800 long before the car is invoiced and shipped. Your dealer is just telling you what you want to hear to make you leave them alone.

and how do you explain multiple people sitting at 3400 status and then just jumping straight to shipped in one day, it only makes sense that gm isnt updating the status sometimes, i dont believe this is always the case

Let's just give your dealer the benefit of the doubt and say "they" did call him. It wouldn't be the first time that customer support and/or the DBC were completely wrong. When your car is built, the VIN will be in global connect.

That might be true because your VIN is only like 150 higher than mine but your event status went to 3800 5 days after mine. No way it took 5 days to build 150 cars.

For me, I was initially invoiced about 4 days after my car was built. Of course, my car was built almost 30 days ago (and I mean completed, it was going down the line and very close to the end, this time last month).

More evidence , i got this from number9 he posted this on the last page of the Tracking All Currently Known US VIN and Window Stickers page

My point exactly. He knew it was built because he got his vin # (look under his avatar). The VIN isn't tied to the invoice date or ship date, but build date. When your car is built it will go 3800 and get a VIN. Sometime after that (typically a couple days) it will get invoiced. And normally around that same time it will ship. But it may get stuck in QC hold and/or stripes for some undetermined length of time before it actually ships. There's also the possibility that the invoice is delayed and may not even arrive til after the car does. BUT, the car will have a VIN!

The VIN is on the car right when it starts being built. It shows up in dealer world when the car is finished being built. You are correct that invoicing doesn't happen at the time that it's built but that has nothing to do with the VIN.

I just question that your dealer knew your car was built today before the day was even over. He must have some deep contacts. If it's true, expect a phone call tomorrow with your VIN.

Just don't hold your breath.
