Tonneau Cover Tries To Fly....
The other night we were riding down the highway at about 55mph and the tonneau cover just flies off the car..one of the clips was broke and stuck to the mounts on the car...by the time I turned around to go get it,it had been run over several times...I wish they would have built their tonneau over like the ones in the corvette..I have only had the car for a few weeks now and I really do like it. I hope the dealer will replace,I will talk to them on Monday.

They will. I've had mine replaced already...
Couple suggestions for ya that I've found to help- 1) get a 5' x 2.5-3' piece of thin felt... when you put your top down, cover it with this before installing the tanneau. Not only will it give it less room to allow air flow beneath, but also protect the top from rub/burn marks across the #2 bow as the tanneau rubs while driving. 2) add a small washer- same diameter as the tanneau installation post, between the post and the trim... makes attaching easier and more room to "push" the tanneau back, allowing more material to tuck under the trunk trim, and less likeleyhood of flight. 3)- add a second washer, a 2.5"-3" between the trim itself and actual post... won't effect the cover, but will hold the trim flat, keep it from buckling and make installation that much easier. I've experimented and discovered these methods... proved to work for me. I posted in March of 11' about the tanneau flying off- these minor mods have prevented it from happening again since |

The tonneau cover is a pain to put on and take off. I don't even bother... I mean the thing seems to cause more problems than any good it does. If it were truly needed it would be a standard item for all verts, but only the 2LT and 2SS.
Anyone else feel this way? |

I have had a lot of rag tops, and the only one I used the cover on was a 63 Plymouth. It was attached at the front, so you had to use it. Every other one, the cover was just too much trouble. Chevy, Ford...didn't matter. (Ford, however, does know how to make a convertible top that works)
