I would have just purchased the 50k suv for the wife

A good coat of wax/sealant, proper winter tires, maybe some floor liners to protect the carpet, and rinse off the winter sludge as often as you can.

I bought the neighbors 1999 tahoe for 2k...that is what I would do. Winters up there are long...I would just hate to put the car through that.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

We looked at dozens of cars in the 30k price range, she did not like any of them. Ironically, her and I have similar vehicle preferences. She really enjoys driving my car, and since I have a 2018 LTZ Siliverado as my DD I rarely drive the ZL1.

I will stick with the 5w30 Mobil, I am on-line now shopping for rims and Blizzaks that will fit. I hope I can avoid a staggered setup, but I wil see what I can find.

I will have to do some testing on the additional weight in back..I was suprised to read that can negatively affect traction.

You all may want to buy stock in Adam's Cleaners, I am going to be buying a lot of cleaners this winter

It’s a bad idea using it in the winter. I’m in NY so I know bad winters. Not only will your car turn to crap in no time flat, your wife may seriously hurt herself or get stuck often. It’s not a winter car no matter what tires you put on it. A very bad idea.

I'll be watching for future updates throughout the winter. I personally couldn't do what you're about to but it's not my car. Anyways just hope she's careful and you guys don't have any problems. Just keep up on cleaning it at any and every opportunity you have and I'm sure come next spring you'll surprise a few on how good it still looks.

I have been running PIRELLI Scorpion winter tires on two different Camaros since December 2009. The first was a 2ss adnfor the past two winters a ZL1. The local dealer had a set of nicked up stock 2SS wheels and I bought them. The stock 2SS size tires were used for both Cars. I put the ZL1 in PTM mode 1 (wet roads) and every thing seems to be going well. I am on the second set of tires now.

The predicted El Nino and the milder winter it will produce should help your cause.

My mom drove a 1969 Olds 442 with big fat Gillette bias ply tires and no PTM for several years in central Indiana. The driver will determine success.

New Englander here, IMO For the amount you could end up spending on rims and winter tires tires, I woudl pick up a winter beater. I'm sure you will take it easy in the snow but you cant keep another driver from sliding and hitting you. Driving a winter beater and keeping the salt out of the undercarriage of the Z will be worth it in the long run.

I have a full set of Pirelli 285/35 R20 Sotozero Serie II winter tires that I bought for $1700. I had them on for less than 3k miles. Even have them in the Tire Rack bags. Amazing traction in the rain and on ice. Now that I've moved to California, they are just taking up space. They are impossible to sell locally due to the weather. I've included some pics. $100 bucks + shipping and they are all yours.

Update: have abandoned that plan. Bought wife new Durango GT. Currently at 5 vehicles, thinking about selling my ZL1 in spring. Running out of room and time to enjoy it.
