This thread "was" about the ZL1 and GTR wasn't it?
the GT-R is really more of a Z06 and ZR1 competitor, but it is interesting to see how the ZL1 compares to an established supercar. It looks pretty racy (and way more fun).

theyve already shown it produces MORE than 650hp......670HP to be exact.

Me too, that would have been a fun read.

By not accepting that challenge, and not issuing GT500's to magazines for comparisons, I'd say that Ford is the one that's scared, not GM.
If i was GM and knew i built a better car, i would have supplied the GT500 and publicly excuted it. 50k is not a huge investment for the publicity it would have received. MAYBE ford IS scared, but GM is also pulling punches when it could have just gave the GT500 a knockout blow.

The biggest problem I am seeing here is that so many people are seriously concerned with what Road and Track, or Car and Driver, or whatever other magazine, say about how slow or dull the ZL1 and most other domestic vehicles are... These magazines are WELL KNOWN for bashing domestic autos and their track times seem to be even slower then the video games they apparently love to play.. LOL!

I'm ready to see some real world track times, whether it be at the drag strip or a good road course.. Oh yeah, and is it me or did the dude talking seem to be in slow motion?? LOL!

I.... would..... love..... to..... know.... how.... much.... he..... got..... paid.... for..... that.... article.....

I wonder why Ford has never posted the results from this test back in 2011 of the 13s, maybe they were a bit disappointing? Does seem kind of odd I mean bring two GT500s to the track and 9 months later the times are still not posted. I am sure Chevy knew exactly what their times were.

All said and done; it hard to beat an AWD equipped sport car even with the "new" sticky tire technology that ZR1 has employed. Plus, you can drive it in the snow and rain with confidences too!

Well it seems as though tons of ZL1 owners will be taking their cars to germany because that's the laptime that counts, forget state side tracks right? (the ones you can actually go to and run)

I think I sense just a little sarcasm there.

I think you are missing the point. The reason that time at the ring is so important is the different track types, corner type and conditions that you can test on all at the same track. If you can run good times there, then you are certain to run good times anywhere.

I can't wait to post the differences from my 99 SS with some suspension work, my 3 C5 Z06's that I owned and compare those to my ZL1 when I get it!

That will be the real test, when us amateurs do the same tracks that we have done in other cars and see how it compares.

It is a fairly simple concept, really.

This is the stupidest comparison ever. The GTR is a supercar......there is a reason it cost $90k. This is like comparing shaq brand with jordan brand. Of course jordan is higher quality. Mc hammer with jay z. Ford with chevy. Apple with android. The latter always is better

That's the point. The ZL1 is HUGE bang for the buck. Had the test been better controlled(temps, etc.) we would have seen closer results at almost half the price. Value is the key here.

A Black/Black Ltd Edition 2012 NISSAN GT-R will MSRP at $99.6K with the 2013s even higher. It's still a bargain supercar at that price. A LOT of folks have preconceived notions that a V6 with AWD is NO big deal. I'd suggest that you drive one for a real epiphany. It's too bad that they are more at home on the track than real world roads where I do most of my driving.
