I'm not okay with the 4-banger for heritage reasons, but don't underestimate that motor. It's rocking 260 horses, plenty enough to knock around the Civics. Plus, it's used in a bunch of other cars and will sell more Camaros. I'm sure there will be thorough differences with a 4-banger Camaro so no one will confuse it with the V8s.

^the real kicker is how they were talking about detuning the v6 to like 260...so, where would the distinction be b/w the 4 & 6???!?!?!?! heritage wise, technically they did have a 4 banger for a couple years in the 80's but it wasn't pretty. i agree, we shouldn't have one and they should keep the v6 at 300+

Well they are also talking about upping LNF (or its replacement) in the Kappas to 300hp next year, so maybe the turbo-4 Camaro will be the mid level.

I could live with a supercharged v6, that wouldn't be to bad just not feeling the 4 cylinder no offense just not my style

I know there used to be a 4-banger Camaro, but it was an embarrassment. This one is beefy, but it still isn't in the right car. A car with a front end this long shouldn't ever have a 4-cylinder engine in it.

Assuming both are facotry built, I'd want the FI motor. The reason is I will be modding my engine, and the FI will give me many more inexpensive ways to get big horsepower since the blower is already there. Where the High Compression NA motor is comparatively tapped out (unless you add a low boost blower, Cha Ching). Also the driving experience is different. Blown engines are kinda jumpy and agressive and a bit annoying in stop and go daily traffic. Where as the NA motors are a little less agressive (not much less) and they are so much more tame when you are just motoring around. But for me I want to be as radical as I can get. If it was a daily driver I'd probably get an LS7 like NA motor. I've heard ZO6 owners say they almost forget all that power is there when they're crusing around. That's not the case with blown engines. To each his own. Both are wicked fast and will be a ton of fun.

I don't think I've ever heard of anyone wanting a 500 hp engine to use as a daily driver, because its kinda 'tame'.

+1 - WTF was that post all about?... SPAM?
Just like gta', I want power on the cheap. In addition, I know GM will put the components in the car to match that power already. I know that that doesn't necessarily mean a completely forged bottom end, but with how GM tests their engines, I wouldn't question upping the boost a little more on a FI engine. At this point, in the relatively simple modifications I've done to my current car, I'd rather spend that money out front, with a warranty, and know that GM's already tested and validated everything. FI isn't for everyone but I don't think there is anything wrong with it.

If the Z06 and the ZR-1 where the same price and performance I would go with the Z06. I can always add a better turbo or supercharger after the fact.

In either case you are using the safety margin that the designers built into the engine (unless you rebuild it). On the blown engine you can swap the pulley and tune it (or just tune a turbo engine) to make a big gain, but the NA engine will require a blower (lots of time & money) and a tune to make the same gain. |
