first timer checking in have a question 2
just picked up a nice 93 camaro v6 98 front end for 400 clean car for the price but the fuel pump needs to be replaced.
i bought it as a project car and want to drop a v8 in it.i was thinking off going with a carbarated v8 just because im not to fimiliar with fuel injection. then i was thinking a tpi route.i wanted to drop an ls1 in also im only gonna have about 2500-3000 for the motor upgrade...what would be best? |

First you have to decide what you want the car for. Race only, DD, weekend car.Do you have to comply with emissions?

you are going to have to do more than just the motor, you will also need a new trans as well, and depending on which motor/trans combo, you will need a new driveshaft. as well as new suspension to handle the added weight up front.
check out this site: http://hpsalvage.com/ and click on "swap tips" to get an idea of what lies ahead for an engine swap

carb is fun, but trickier to tune and mod.

why would it take the point out of it? the victor intake and the MSD ignition setup on it still utilizes the individual coil setup as well as making just a tad bit more power using the same cam. and the added benefit of 6 bolt mains and other things in the motor make it better than a traditional 350.

seriously tho, it depends on what you can find to start with. honestly, id look around for a 5.3 LS motor with trans, computer and wiring to make things as simple as possible. for the carb setup, you need a carb, intake manifold, and custom wiring for everything, plus a non computer controlled trans as well. the carb setup is pretty straightforward, the intake manifold is swapped, computer goes bye-bye, and you rig up your own starter and wiring/fuel system. for an LS based swap, you will need a new k-member as well as the LT1 and LS1 style k-members are different ive seen LS based motors with trans and wiring go for $1500.00 in various sites. we dont do a whole lot of selling on here, but you can check out Z28.com, CamaroZ28.com, LS1tech.com, LS1LT1.com to find a full setup to make things easier to swap.

after reading the swap tips an carbed lt1 sounds easier, would i have to run the stock water pump an opti spark set up,or could i switch.
and i see the alternator and power steering pumps are located all crazy would i be able to run a basic 350 set with the altternator on the pass side and power steering on the driver side? |
