Camaro SS vs Chevy SS

Got into an argument today with a group of guys who say the SS is far better than the Camaro SS. They stated how they've walked the Camaro down and beat them on the auto cross. Just wondering what everyone here thought or if anyone had any experience with the SS.

There is a pecking order at Chevrolet and it is and always will be..Corvette at the top followed by the camaro then after that it doesn't really matter.

SS is a nice car with 415hp rating. It won't walk a Camaro SS 426hp stock in the AutoX or drag strip, unless the Camaro Driver doesn't know what they are doing.

Chevy SS is a 4,000 lbs car compared to the 3800lbs weight of an Camaro SS.

Not to mention the Camaro SS has an FE4 suspension that the Chevy SS lacks.

For the price of an SS you can get a 2015 1LE with upgraded suspension and then it's not even a fair comparison handling wise.

Are they 100% sure the Camaro was an SS. So many people confuse the RS for SS. As others have said, the Camaro SS has more power, less weight, and better suspension. The CG is *probably* lower as well. Only way a Chevy SS can keep up is a great big gap in driver skill levels.

I love the SS for what it is, a fast, big, comfy, people hauling car. It's raw performance is just a bit under the Camaro in every way.

The ones that I've seen that are supercharged are running 11.80 - 11.90 @ 117 on the drag strip, I have no idea what they can do on autocross.

Thanks, everything stated above is what I had to say and they believe the SS is next to the Corvette. "The SS is a 4 door Corvette" as I was told.

Cars are very similar with LS3 based engines. Both on Zeta platform with either FE3 or FE4 suspension. The 2015 SS has Mag ride. If your comparing Auto to Auto the Chevy SS has more HP.

I think the term 4 door camaro would be more accurate.

Google search says the Camaro SS Curb weight is 3860 vs 3975 of the SS.

I bumped into one on the highway Labor Weekend. I don't know what he had done, but the exhaust was definitely louder than stock. My mods are in my sig. From a 50-60 roll, I walked him every time. We both gave the "thumbs up" and went our separate ways. Cool car!

OP - These guys are blowing smoke. While the SS is a great car, they are not walking on Camaro's at a track or road course, not even with Pabst driving both cars the same day and comparing times.

Just ignore the shit talkers. If anything, offer to pay their entrance fee to a drag strip if they beat you.

Don't sweat it, it's a family sedan with some power, but doesn't match the Camaro in terms of sheer performance on/off tracks.

Lol I would never compare the SS to a Camaro ss. They are different animals. I think a better comparison would be a Pontiac g8 GXP vs Chevy SS. I would say the Chevy SS is better.

G8 under a chevy badge now. Still wouldn't mind having if the price was a little lower.
