Converter or transmission

Question.. so my transmission shifts fine and I have no problem with it, I more so think it's the converter.. under normal driving and a hard pull it shifts fine.. only when the temp gets up to 180 is it that it wants to bog on pull off from under 5mph or it idles lower then usually.. I THINK the converter has a problem like a cracked in it letting fuel slip thru once it's too operating temp.. I don't think it's trash at all.. is it possible that it could ONLY be the converter and my the trans.. or should I just get a new trans and converter.. kind of on a little budget but if I just HAVE TO get a transmission I will but praying it's just the converter.. I can't even stall it all the way up

Tna for any info

Ok, my standard questions: How many miles on trans? Mods, tunes etc? When was the last time fluid and filter were changed? Fluid level OK? Is the car a DD, race car or somewhere in between? This info will help some of the knowledgeable folks (not me) steer you in the proper direction.

How are you checking the fluid? Like, I need to know exactly how you do it. What temp is the tranny at? Car in neutral?

Car at operating temp.. I'm neutral. I pull the plug and pump the fluid in till it drip. Put the plug in and pump a extra quart.. I found a used trans out a wrecked 11 ss that was running fine. Might just buy that for cheap and swap it in and get the converter checked out

Wait, why are you putting an extra court in? AND, what is the tranny temp when you check? It should be 180 or so. If you are checking if when the engine is up to temp that doesn't mean the tranny is up to temp.

I would drain out the fluid to be at the level it was before you put an extra quart in and see if you notice any changes.

There are several places that recommend adding extra transmission fluid to the 6L80. I started doing it when I saw that Circle D Transmissions recommended 3/4 quart over.

https://www.circledtrans.com/files/R...-June-2013.pdf

It eliminated most of my occurrences of shift flare on hard acceleration.

Janetty's 6l80 dipstick kit accounts for the extra fluid as well.
