GY's vs MPSS. My review

Michelin PSS v GY Eagle’s

So I wore out the GY’s and I loved the ride and traction that I had when the tires warm up and the outside temperature was up. I hated them when it was cold and wet.

I decided to try to MPSS like a lot have recommended on the Forum. I like the tires except they seem unstable after 130 miles per hour. I know this will be hard for some you guys that live in the US. (I will hate moving back to the US because of the Speed limits) I will have to test them out one more time.

So who has any thought on the MPSS at speed? If this is the case I will have to look at different tires or go back to GY’s.

Here is my pro and cons

Good Years
GY pros,

great when hot and dry, felt like I was attached to a rail or something on the corners. Very stable at high speeds over 150 mph (German Autobahn).

GY Cons,

no traction in the cold or wet, Noisy and harsh ride, they wears out very quickly.

Michelin’s

Pros, decent traction when cold and wet and a smoother ride and quieter than the GY.

Cons. To me they seem to be less stable at high speeds over 130 mph. other than that good.

What are your thoughts?

Put a bit more air in them. I've noticed they seem to like a bit more air than most tires.

Great review, eventually I will have to replace the GY's. I live in California, and drive the car only above 40 degrees. I love how the GY's ride, stick etc. I am glad you put this review up, because I plan to go with a tire I can drive at any temp. Are the Micheline's the same size?

I noticed the same thing at high speeds. Bumped up cold pressure to 36 as dealer had them at 28. Problem solved.

Definitely no issues with high speed stability. Up to 155 mph is the highest I've done.

I took the goodyears off of my car last fall and put the michelins on and I can tell you[my experience] I dislike them. No traction, and not worth a damn in the noise dept. I do not know of another tire to run for all year so I guess I will have to live with them at least thru the colder months. I am putting my g-years back on real soon.

At those speeds you need more psi in the tires. Straight off the Michelin web site for the Pilot Super Sport.

For high-speed driving, additional inflation pressure and possibly reduced tire loading and/or upsizing is required. In the absence of specific recommendations by the vehicle manufacturer, use the following guidelines based on those in the European Tyre and Rim Technical Organization Standards Manual.

For speeds over 160km/h (100 mph), load and inflation must be adjusted according to the table below.

(Y)-Speed Rated Sizes:
Maximum Speed (mph) 118 124 130 136 143 149 155 161 168 174 180 186
Inflation Increase (psi) 0 0 0 0 1.5 3 4.5 6 7.5 7.5 7.5 7.5
Load Capacity (% of max) 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 95 90 85

You have it right! At least to 155 or so.

They are summer tires. If you want all season go with the Continental Extreme contact DWS.

Felt a little squishy at 184mph, backed off to 175mph. Also upped the PSI.
