forget the TTV6. the extra weight for the trubo and tubing would not be anymore benefit then two extra cylinders.

as for weight reduction if it has no airbags a race seat and 5 point harness you're good to go. safer then with air bags IMO.

As you're aware, Chevrolet is encouraging the SS strategy with cars such as the HHR SS and Cobalt SS. Consistent with this strategy, we have a Camaro SS."

likes been stated. GM does not talk about up coming product line ups. just look at the ZR1. no official word about it for a very long time. just like small hints. FbodFather has stated several times it's not dead and that she's been misquoted. I believe him and honestly hope that the Z28 is what people here want it to be a 550 hp camaro that is the GT500 killer.

but believe it won't be. . .but whatever GM does it will be in the best interest for them. . .

When did GM say they were going to release the Z28?

some things to point out:

the GT500 was not available at the launch of the 2005 new Mustang... it came later on... so does it really surprise anyone that a Z28 would come to market later than the V6 and SS model? and the new Mustang 'vert wasn't available for the 2005 model year, either... so that doesn't surprise me either... although both of these delays are kind of saddening.

the Corvette outhandled and outran a Shelby GT500 that had 100more horsepower than the Corvette did when they tested the two against each other... now who here thinks that a Camaro that weighs 500-600lbs more than a C6 with a 436hp LS3 has anything to fear from an average Joe piloted 500+hp Camaro? I certainly dont think it does, and I'm betting GM doesn't either... so dont be surprised if the Z28 comes out with a pricetag at around $42-45k fully loaded... that's right in line with a GT500 and only slightly more than a SRT8 Challenger... which is easily beaten by even an SS Camaro without the supercharger.

just a couple of notes from the GM handbook and history lessons about the cars we're talking about in this thread.

Agree 100% with the time line on the cars.

He's wrong, but forget the TT V6 anyway. There are still too many geezers who will demand a big V8.

Although I think that whoever offers the next pony car with a TT V6 in place of the base V8 will make a killing. Unfortunately it looks like it will be Ford.

lol geezer wow I didn't realize i aged 50 years or so. . .

the saying is still true no matter how you slice the pie,

there's no replacement for displacement.

mod for mod a larger bigger bore engine will produce more hp and tq with the same amount of PSI that a smaller engine will produce.

unfortunately youngins think they can make all the power in the world out of a V-6 or I-4 and not out of a V-8 or 10 or 12 or wot not.

granted all of this is if the engine is burning the fuel effeciently.

ok... ahem... everyone talks and talks and rants about the GT500 killer............................

hello...? SHELBY gt500.... key word .... shelby......

yes there is a ford motor inside that SHELBY.... just like some tuner will do...

they will make the stang killer from a ls9 no doubt... this is why i think tuners are invited to measure the specs and blah blah blah... there is enough amazing tuners who do factory quality and factory warrenty that im sure gm will approve... maybe it will be called the toptuner camaro... honestly.....

who....

cares.... we ALL wanted the ls3... we got it..... we all wanted the afm.... we got it....

gm has done an amazing job... but to make 1000 z28's ... wouldn't be profitable..... and woudl go against thier image of gas miser's r' us....

sorry to cap on everyone ranting....

BUT COME ON....
but hey....wouldn't you rather supercharge your own ls3 anyways?
since whatevery motor goes in there its going to be a 6.2 supercharged or not..... srt guys feel stupid when my rt charger blows them away...

you're on key with some people in this thread. but not everyone really cares for the Z28 to be a GT500 killer.

like I've said before if it were to hold to to the 69 mind set it would be for road racing and be better handling then the SS.

what should be a GT500 killer is a COPO or ZL1.

like you've stated SHELBY created the GT500, and lingenfelter/mallet/etc will do their part with the camaro.

I'd prefer GM to do the car, with a complete warranty. To me, just bolting on a supercharger on a stock longbock just isn't as reliable as utilizing an engine that's already engineered to cope with racing (i.e. LSA.) For the life of me, regardless of this being a Z28 or not, I can't comprehend why those of you who are happy seem to think that there isn't justification to have direct competition with Camaro's direct competition. YES, I read that GM started to look elsewhere for competition becuase the current Mustang just wasn't a match anymore. Why in the Heck would a car company try not to think about the future of it's competitors and engineer something that will still be competitive in several years. FINE - those of you who are happy with the SS got your car. I'm very happy for you, but why don't you bite your lip for some of us who want more? Not many (and certainly not that many who are looking forward to a higher performance model, like me) are saying we are disappointed with the SS, we just want more. Mustang has more, with a ful factory warranty, so be happy with the car you have, and allow the rest of us who would just like to encourage GM to provide us with one better. Shees; I thought this was supposed to be a positive thread, but we keep getting people posting in here that have nothing positive to add...
