Just Installed My Hurst Short Throw Shifter
I just installed my recently purchased Hurst Short Throw Shifter this evening. I was going to wait until the spring thaw here but I was jonesing for some Camaro time. I have my car stored in the 3rd bay of my attached garage. It is relatively tight in their (pic below) but I figured I would just take my time.
The total job took about 90 minutes. Kudos to Hurst for their outstanding installation instructions. Also the install video I found on Camaro5 was very helpful. I felt like I had done 10 of these by the time I had started my install. I will say that the proper tools is what makes this job go smoothly. Long 3/8" drive extension and ball-head hex sockets are a must. It is a little tight up there. If I had done this with a hoist, it is a 40 minute job tops. The most difficult part of the entire job was reinstalling the lower shifter housing boot properly. That is pretty important as it is very close to the drive shaft. All in all it was a piece of cake. I really like the short throw. I was not able to drive the car; although, I did back it out of the garage to make sure everything was working properly. Hopefully I do not encounter any of the noise issues I am reading about here. I will say that grabbing reverse requires a bit more of a push to the right than the stock shifter did. Anyway, I wanted to post this for any of you considering performing the install yourself. It is really easy and the instructions that come with the shifter are VERY accurate. |

What kind of noise? I can definitely hear the shifter "click" into gear. I must say I was somewhat surprised by the lack of sound deadening insulation in the counsel area.
