Which cam to choose

I have a 2010 SS L99 and Im looking into getting a cam. Just trying to find the best one out there. I know there are many different ones and any ideas/help would be great!

Need more information, what's it's intended usage? Where do you want your power to be in the rev range? Do you plan on doing any sort of f/i in the future? You have an auto or manual?

I'm doing the same thing and did a lot of research and reading. If you want bad ass sound, numbers and nothing but good feedback, go with the Texas Speed cam 231/236 with and LSA of 112. I have an L99 and won't be doing any FI for awhile either. The other popular one is the LG Motorsports G6X3. The LG cam is a little to lopey for my taste but the TSP cam that I'm installing this week I feel will perform and sound amazing. I will be adding a vid to my build thread when it's all done. My blog is in the Member Journals section under "Ken's NA 2010 A6 build. Check it out and good luck!

Oh, one more thing. You'll want to do a DOD/AFM delete on your car. Trust me, it's worth it. Get rid of that fuel mgmt stuff. Your car will run and sound better. Plus you have to do that to use these cams. Here's a link: http://www.texas-speed.com/p-79-texa...-camshaft.aspx

Keep in mind the more radical cams like a higher stall converter.

It would be helpful to hear from anyone that has put some miles on a cammed L99 including converter info.

You need a stall converter for a cam that big, gears would help too. The bigger you go the less down low you have and more power up top. Keep that in mid when choosing... you could run a smaller cam on a tight LSA for a bit more chop at idle. Personally I think most of these cams are too big for this car without the proper gearing and converter.

Take a look and listen to my JRE Cams, we offer a Hot Street cam that makes 420-430 RWHP L99 with supporting mods and does not require a converter, Driveability is Great and Idle is Rough out the pipes.

It will sound exactly like this one.

I probably should have told the OP that too. I'm adding this cam and am installing a 2800 stall/torque converter and trans cooler along with it. TSP recommends at least a 2500 TC with this cam. As far as gearing goes, I haven't done anything there yet but will be driving it at the end of the week to see how it feels. Another blog I have been following did the TC and switched to 3:45 gearing like that in the stock LS3 manual. Said it worked out pretty good. I have a local speedshop that offered to help me out on gearing so we'll see how it goes. If I make changes I will post and maybe give the OP some useful info.

Feel free to give us a call here at Lethal Racing. We are also close to you, in lafayette. We have a few cam choices that I think would intrest you. One of them doesnt require a converter.

Thanks,
Nick

I will throw the VVT-3 cam in as an option, but does require a converter. It makes good power and backs it up at the track.

OP, contact a vendor... your question is still vague. All will give you power/sound, some will give you much more than you want and will suffer low end. VVT cams will give you low end, but while reliable so far..don't have much of a proven track record yet with an L99,

prepare to dump around 3-4k after parts, labor, tune that does not include supporting mods like trans coolers or torque converters. If you go big, you will def want a torque converter.
