Dealer Allocations?

Another dealer said my dealer that I’m about to get a car from has no allocations left and it would be well past 6 months before I would take delivery.

Can dealers take orders for cars when they have zero allocations left?

Thanks everyone,

Yes they absolutely can. My dealer had 24 allocations and have 38 sold at the moment.

Sounds about right for the timeline also, the allocation process is allowing GM to fill orders thru Q3. Any orders past the allocation are supposed to be built after Q3, unless something drastically changes.

The numbers were all just estimates. They may end up getting through the early production guide ahead of schedule.

The allocations are assigned quarterly, not annually.

Not true.

For the Camaro due to it's preordering, GM gave a "production guide number" to each dealer that told them how many they could expect to see up through third quarter (september) of this year. This is often incorrectly referred to as "allocation". It was just a guide for dealers to go off of for preorders, nothing more.

Dealers are informed of their allocation monthly (around the middle of the month) and it tells them what week they'll get allocation and how much they'll get. Then, in the weeks that were specified in the allocation report, they can actually place the orders.

and this as well as how these allocations are decided, is where all the chaos, head scratching and frustration begins!
