Approximate life in miles of the MPSS's?

I'm looking through tire selections here and i'm trying to pin the difference between the Continental Extreme Contact DW's and the MPSS's. I don't want some tire that will last like 10k miles here.

I bought my camaro used with 16k miles on it and the tires were pretty decent still but i have absolutely no idea if they were the 2nd set or not but the car was in near perfect condition so i don't think the guy drove it hard. I'm now at 25.5k miles and the tires finally have literally 0 tread left on em, its like driving with some drag radials. So, i need new tires.

Now i'm trying to not pay so much attention to the rating of 8.3 treadwear on tirerack for the MPSS's and the 7.8 for the Continentals. They are different tires so i can see it being like this:

MPSS have treadwear of 8.3 but because of the tire being ultra high performance might mean 8-10k miles.

Continentals have treadwear of 7.8 but arent ultra high performance so those tires might last 15k-20k miles.

I'd rather have the longer lasting tires if it means a little performance loss.

I do not drag race, but i will hit the track a few times just for fun but no burn outs for traction. I do drive spirited probably 10% of the time. Meaning a nice launch from a stop here and there or punching it when i'm already on the go is what i usually do to avoid tire screeching. Also still learning how to handle this thing so yeah.

DW's, i think, are placed in the Max Performance category... which is a higher position. So, you would get less miles with those based on that logic. Those numbers are not what TR rates them, those are based on customer opinions. I think the higher the number, the more wear resistance people are experiencing. You could also go their respective treadwear rating, but its typically just as arbitrary as the customer ratings.

Yeah i know, hence the post. There's not really a clear cut estimation on miles. Obviously i understand everyone drives differently but i would think there should be a clear approx mile range. Trying to see if anyone has had experience with these tires to see about what they got

This will be a difficult question to answer. As stated driving style, where you live (AZ vrs MI), on track, drag racing, street racing,how often you check your tire pressure, all will have an impact on tire life. I can say that anything that says ultra high performance is going to be a short lived tire. The softer compounds in them wear faster, especially in an area with high average temperatures.

That being said, I know people that have gotten 30,000 + miles out of a set of Perilli's and I barely got 20,000. And I don't race or do burnouts and I am a fanatic on checking my tire pressure every week. Just my .02, Good luck on your choice.

Its a hard thing to answer it all depends on road conditions, how you drive vehicle alignment etc.

But roughly I have gotten about 30-40k before, and I have had friends who have gotten less as well.

Hmmm I see. Well I'm from NY, and as of right now, it's still snowing. So, I probably put around 3000 miles on the high end a year. If I could find a set that lasts me 5 years, that would be cool. I guess I could see getting 25k and I would be happy with that. I generally only drive when it's nice out, 35+ degrees and dry. I have driven through rain a few times but don't try to.

Alignment is definitely good. I check the pressure often enough, shouldn't be an issue. Easy stuff to not waste money lol.

I am on my 3rd set or rear PSS's. I get 20k per set.

I'm at 25k (over 2 years) on one set and still have about 5k left in them... along with 14 track days...

The only tire I'll put on my Camaro, unless I'm doing giant road course's.


That said your in New York, and these are SUMMER ONLY tires, meaning anything around 32 degrees and you run the risk, they get hard and can even crack if you drive them in the cold.

I use the Conti DWS during the cold months. Right now i have about 18K on them. They don't look warn in no way. I'm looking to get 30K or more possibly. The Michelin's i only have about 6k miles on those right now. They will be going back on next month.

Hmmmm I see. Thanks for the info. 20k doesn't sound bad. I could definitely get 5 years out of mine then. Nice.

I would say 20-25k average. Some run through them faster. I a have also seen some get 40k miles.

Check this list. Generally, performance tires do not have a mileage warranty. All season tires do have a mileage warranty, but most are just pro-rated. Some offer a replacement if the tire fails before a certain mileage.

Ok so im about ready to order, is it acceptable to change the size of the tire to be non standard on standard rims? Will i have any adverse affects besides my speedometer being a little off which i'm putting 3.91's on and a cam as well so it will be re-tuned anyways.

245/40/20 and 275/35/20

245/40/20 and 275/35/20

The OD changes a bit so your speedo will show to be a bit faster but other then that nothing big.
