Well, no matter how much money you throw at it you are not going it to make over 1000 whp with just a 2.9 or smaller blower.... I've thrown a lot of money at my car and some stuff just has a lot more potential.... like turbos.

But a car is so much more than just 'how cheaply can I go faster?'. The ZL1 is not flawless either but for us, it is damn near it!

There is no perfect car out there and there will ALWAYS be one quicker, lighter, cheaper, etc. It's great to have all these choices.

I have a confession... I seriously considered the '15 Mustang 5.0 as a possibility to replace my C7 (Corvette fans are now shrieking in horror! LOL). The interior is awesome, the 5.0 Coyote produces 435 HP stock, the car has IRS, and it handles and drives extremely well. I could not fault the car on anything of serious nature and that really surprised me. I wanted to dislike it right off the bat but could not.

The new Mustang is a great car!

And best of all, you can pick one up with the GT Performance package for about $40k if you don't go crazy with the Options list.

While there has been mixed reception to the new sheet metal, I will say this - I think it looks great and I like the newness of it. However, the front end does - sad to say - look a LOT like a Fusion.

Like I said, I think it is a great car. And like the generations of Mustang power that came before, it loves forced induction.

But what do you want? The ZL1 which we all know is an awesome car that isn't on every street corner but that - shall we say - is a little 'stockier' than the 5.0 and yet that has SO MUCH MORE as a total platform OR, the Mustang - a car so prolific that it seems you can't swing a dead cat and not hit one?

It's all just a matter of personal taste, brand loyalty, objective facts/specs, subjective opinions on this or that, and that elusive 'Gotta Have It!' Factor.

I have lusted over and wanted the 5th gen Camaro for so long, it didn't take much for me to scratch off the 5.0 as a replacement to my C7.

But I can't deny that the 5.0 was a DEFINITE contender. The car IS that good.

And THAT really surprised me.

The nose on that thing looks as long as the rest of the car, looks like you drive it from the trunk.

With all the talk about the 10 sec 1/4 mile, I think you are missing the intent of the ZL1. The ZL1 was built and designed for an autocross track with turns and straights. This car was not designed for the drag strip, it was tested at Nurburgring, not a drag strip. If all you want to do is 10 sec ¼ mile put spray on it and move on.

The ZL1 was tested for both track and strip. They wanted it to be the best all around camaro.

The JDP ZL1000 kit is a crankshaft horsepower kit. That kit will never make 1000 whp...unless you add nitrous.

What someone with a 1000whp ZL1 is looking for is one weekend run a 9 sec quarter, next weekend 200mph Texas mile, next weekend whip every porsche 911 that shows up on the road course, next weekend drive around the national park.... though I still have not got in 9's on that quarter mile.

Exactly what JessRayo said^^^^. I will be happy running mid to high 10s in the quarter, but to have a all around dominant car is the goal

Guys have gone mid 10s on the stock blower with automatic. I don't think you'd need 1K RWHP.

I think given you're at altitude the heartbeat blower, heads/cam and supporting mods would make you happy. (mid 10's at 13Xmph) cool enough IAT's for dragstrip and road racing, massive torque for the street.

- Heartbeat blower
- Injectors
- Upgraded HX
- Headers
- Heads/cam/springs/retainers etc
- Fuel system upgrade (boost a pump or dual pump)
- Tuning
- Potentially a radiator upgrade

If a manual you'd likely want to upgrade the clutch, the auto should live for a while at that power level.

I still think selling your stock blower and going with the AGP setup is a better choice for your RWHP goal though

I ran the stock clutch for 3 years with 2 of those above 650 rwhp and 750 rwhp on race gas. I had over 200 passes with 5000rpm launches. I forged my motor this winter. When the engine was pulled the clutch was in great shape. Only time I've seen people have problems is when they slip it drag racing. I run slicks at the track and usually get mid to low 1.5x 60's. The stock clutch is strong IMO. I ran consistant high 10's with a best of 10.59@134 with stock blower stock clutch.

My wife has a 14' auto ZL1 with cam, headers, injectors, pulleys, HXer upgrade. Her car running 91 octane , mine running race gas. If you want to run 10's race gas and a tune makes it a lot easier.
Here's a video of me and her racing. DA low 3000
