Just a heads up and good to know:

I went to start my '10 SS AM today and it was dead. It's the first time in 8
years that my Camaro let me down. Key was stuck and no lights, etc. So I
called AAA. A jump start got me going with no problem. The dash showed a
little car with a pad lock icon before it started. The tow driver knew right off
that the keys remote's battery was dead. $6.00 later with 2 new batteries and
I'm back on the road. I never even realized the keys had a battery inside.
It's something we all should change every 5 or 6 years but who would ever
think to do it?

You never realized there was a battery in the remote? So all this time you thought the remote worked how? By magic?

That's why I started this thread. I changed my car battery at 6 years and my
tires as needed, all as preventive maintenance along with oil, etc. But I never
thought to check the key battery. The guys above can make fun all they want
but I know many here will now be changing this battery now also.

Just make sure to change it yourself. Unless you feel like making a generous donation to the dealership from the goodness of your heart.

Was the car battery dead along with the fobs battery? You stated a jump start got you going? Did you jump the car or the fob?....j/k

Shouldn't the key start the car regardless of whether the keyless buttons work or not?

No reset. AAA used jumper cables and the car started. Before they came the
key could not be removed and everything was dead. Dash showed the little
car & padlock symbol. AAA said the car couldn't recognize the key, same as
if someone was trying to steal the car.
I just brought both keys to the hardware store and they had the batteries. A
two pack was $5.99- Don't know the #. I should be all set for another 8 years
now.

The battery number is 2032. Energizer. A friend bought a 10 pack on line for a lot
cheaper then a hardware store, but I can't imagine anyone wanting that many.
