Unhappy changed out rear differential fluid

I went to Maher Chevy, to have the rear diff fluid changed out, based on another post a few weeks ago, I expected to pay around 75.00. Time to wake up and smell the napalm, $145.00 ! I would have still had the service done to the car, but given the knowledge that they charged $25.00 a quart, I probably would have shopped around. online costs range from 13.00 to 18.00. Talk about mugging the customer. Posting this for the sakes of others who might be considering to do this maintenance step.
best wishes.

Very easy to do yourself. Its not like the olden days when you have to remove 10 or 12 bolts to remove the diff cover and replace the gasket. There are two plugs to remove with a 3/8 drive wrench one upper and one lower. Just changed and it took me 20 minutes.....My dealer wanted 175.00 for the service.

Just ordered the lube from gmpartsdirect for $13.70/qt. My dealer will do the change for around $40. For that price I'm not messing with it.

Yes simple drain and refill we charge 33.00 labor for this service.
We also have fluids from Redline, Amsoil, and Joe Gibbs for those that want to step it up.
Ted.

I went to my dealer and asked if there was a service bulletin on the ZL1
for rear end hum at low speed turns, and they said yes. I could bearly hear it.
I asked them if it was covered under warranty and they said yes.
They filled drove and drained twice and the third time filled and added
the friction modifier no questions asked. 0 charge.
This was at 11750 miles. I paid them to change the fluid at 1500.
By the way, I didn't even purchase my Z from them, and took it there fully modified.

I have been getting the hum lately and have taken it in to the dealer. Thanks to the folks on this forum, I was even able to give the dealer the reference number for the service bulletin.

WHY DO SO MANY PEOPLE FALL FOR THE I HAVE TO GO TO THE DEALER,OR ITS NOT GETTING DONE CORRECTLY? Then complain about the cost ?
Most master tech's techs at good(GOOD) small shops know more about cars than most of the techs at dealers....granted on certain systems you have to go to the dealer as either the software has not been released,or its a brand new system etc...but for a oil change ? Where do all the guys go right out of school 85% of the time dealers.

I am not knocking the OP,just it never seems to change....

Seriously, this procedure could not be easier. It's easier than the oil change.
Step 1: pull drain plug and top fill plug
Step 2: watch oil drain out
Step 3: replace drain plug
Step 4: fill it back up.
Step 5: replace fill plug

Not rocket science.

But seriously, why would someone leave their car all day or more at the dealer for something that can be done in 5 minutes at home.

How does everyone get the fluid back in, slurp gun or pump? for someone who does this and drains it and then wonders, now how do I pour fluid in that hole?
