If he's stock I personally would bet him my house (as long as you know how to properly launch/drive). Them things are pretty slow. Now dont make the same bet with the 03-04 cobras. A whole new animal!!

Its a 14.00 second car pretty much on par with a 90s LT1..... you will beat him so bad he wont even look at you when you pull in to work. Just make sure he doesn't have a blue bottle in the trunk.

Those Cobras have 305hp at the crank. Despite his weight advantage you should have no problems.

Just to add further. There was a class action suit by owners of cobras that they were not making the advertised power. It was a huge PR disaster for Ford/SVT at the time. It had something or another to do with the intake. If his hasn't been fixed it'll have less.

Iv seen some stock 96-01 cobras be pretty mean. Having said that you should take him pretty easily if you can half way drive, even if you can't drive you should still take him lol

1996 Ford Mustang Cobra 0-60 mph 5.4 Quarter mile 13.8
It' was the 1999 Cobra that was not living up to the claim HP/TQ... Intake/mufflers and engine recalibrated... http://auto.howstuffworks.com/1999-2...d-mustang4.htm

Stock those Cobras aren't that fast by todays standards, but a couple of bolt-ons and a 4.10/4.56 gear swap and they can be pretty quick light to light.

Used to beat up on them with a lightly modded 1994 Lt1. Hero runs had them at 13.8 but most of the guys around here seemed to run 14.2-14.3. Take him to the track and as long as you get off the line okay you will eat his lunch. . Have fun! Guy around here has a 'new' 97 GT and thinks the same thing... LOL.
