Found The Perfect Spot For My Navigator
I tried to mount the navigator on the windshield but we all know just how much real estate we have on that tiny thing, so I got a hold of a piece of aluminum and McGyver'd a braket that actually holds the navigator solidly, it has two tabs that just stick behind the upholstery on the dash.
I have been using it like this for about four months now to make sure this is where i want it, turns out it is the perfect spot for me. I actually use the speedometer on it more than I use the one on the DIC, was thinking of getting a HUD installed, but after using this for a while I am completely satisfied with not having a HUD.

That's awesome! Is it easy to mount and dismount? Any pics of just the bracket on the dash? I may want to that for my garmin

Is it hard-wired in and, if so, to what?

You should market this bracket.... I'd love a mount like that.

I just found a piece of aluminum, it is kind of shabby lookin, but you cannot see it whatsoever with the unit mounted. i gotta clean it up before i show it here.
No it is not hard wired yet due to the fact that I take it out and put it into my Jeep Wrangler on the weekends, however the power cord loops off to the left and is tucked between the dash and door weatherseal, back under the dash/steering wheel and plugged into the console cigarette lighter outlet, I will hard wire it once I get moved to Vegas and will post pics then. Give me a little while and i will post pics of the bracket.

I stick the suction cup for my GPS onto the radio faceplate. Super fast AND easy.

OK.....Please excuse the roughness of the bracket, after all it is still currently in development phase, now it just needs some polishing up and maybe some paint. The way it is built though, you really dont see any of it when the unit is mounted, I just copied the original mounting bracket that came with the Nuvi, but I made it a flush mount model. it does not even mar or scratch the upholstery at all, and I have had it mounted for four months now.
I know it doesn't look like much but it is completely functional, and believe it or not I really thought it out and actually went through a couple of prototypes before I was satisfied with this one. Yes the metal is from a computer hard drive side panel, I just dug it out of some spare metal parts bucket I have at the house. It ended up working out great.-

Nice. I keep my UltraGauge in the same spot using a similar homemade bracket that just tucks behind the dash trim there. Bonus is that the power / OBDII cord is 99% hidden when the door is closed.

The reason I put it where it is now, is I don't have to glance far, it is almost right in my line of sight like a HUD, and I dont have to look down into my DIC to see my speed or navigator. And after a little time trying out all options of placement, it seems like it was designed to be placed right there between the vents and out of the way of anything. I really like it there

Just a little quality time with a pair of tin snips and needle nose pliers, file all the sharp edges smooth and your in business. Also- I have yet to see it come flying off the dash, slip around, it literally stays right where I put it.......no issues at all. Heck I have have had the dang suction cup mount fall off my windshield many times, that is what spurned me to come up with this idea in the first place

I'm pretty sure there is a company that already makes these type of mounts that just snap into the trim. I can't remember what the name of it is or if it was part of a kit for something else...
