Do I really need better axles?

Do I really need better axles?

Got 2012 SS auto with Twin Turbos. only 10 PSI and about 650wrhp.
I dont race at track and would never put drag's on it. No issue letting the tires spin

I dont have any issues now. other than one axle boot has been cracked for years and grease been coming out.

I am upgrading Diff to AAM 3.91 gears and Detroit Truetrac POSI.

I was going to just get new OEM axles, to replace bad boot one and might as well do both for the price of $370 shipped.

So my question is do i really need 1,000HP axles? or will the OEM be ok with the new 3.91's?

i was thinking i could always go better axles in future if needed. But when doing Diff i wanted to do it right the first time.

Been using 1LE axles(larger outer CV) off of ebay for $200 used for over 3 yrs with lots of trips to the track usin dr's and mostly 1.7 60' and lots of hwy miles too...no probs.

I also upgraded to 3.91's and have a 6M which hits the rear harder than auto.

make sure to replace the axle seals at this time too! cheap insur

so to answer you Q and based on your driving spec's above you should be fine...tho you must be replacing the rear's frequently right?

Do you think the 1LE axles will fit a 12 SS A6 diff? if so i will look into that.
this should be it? ---> 1LE Axles PN 22806796 and 22806795

Seals and bearings all getting replaced when doing diff.

I only Replaced the tires once. (315/35R20 Continental Extreme DWS) back in 2013 lol still got them. but its getting time to replace again. So i think i will be fine.

And thanks for feedback!

Probably better to replace suspension parts to prevent wheel hop. Contact BMR for recommendations.

Thanks! Did all that years ago and trailing arms.
But i think i might replace the BMR Diff bushings (Black) looks like they are going bad. will know more when it take Diff out. Might get the BMR red ones this time.

also got this from someone. its the 1LE axles

1LE LH Axle - 22806795
1LE RH Axle - 22806796
1LE Axle Nut - 11611234 (x2)
Washer for the hub end, 11611965 (x2)

Anyone done this before? is this correct?

Should be ok for me and under $400 and not $1200 for 1khp axles.

If your car is lower look at offset diff bushings to help the axle angles.

Thanks

Yes its as low as you can get static now. But I am looking into a Airlift package So driving might be normal height or little lower.

Also might get a used set of DSS 1000hp axles. i have to check if its needed for them.

I run 1le axles. I’m similar if not a little more horsepower and I drag race with 17’s and drag radials. Haven’t broken them yet! Lol. They’ll fit any SS. As far as I know all SS’s have the same diff, manual or auto, so all the axles (auto, manual, 1/le) are interchangeable. Good upgrade without spending an arm and a leg

I'll chime in as well - if you're not going on the drag strip with sticky tires, and you know how to close the throttle if it starts to wheelhop on the street - then you don't have much to worry about. I like to think of the stock axle as a fuse, protecting more expensive parts (like the diff). I definitely wouldn't worry about it - stay with stock and/or stock replacement and have fun!
