I couldn't believe they didn't already own it. I love the C2 Sting Rays. The later Stingrays, not so much. I wonder what they have planned for this?

Possibly nothing. They own hundreds of names, possibly thousands. This just prevents anyone else from using it.

The C7 will probably either be based on the stingray concept, or the C7 will have a variant that uses its name.

Is GM hoping to capitalize on the film, are they just attempting to avoid embarrassing copies, or is this the rumored mid-engine, split-window seventh-generation 'Vette we've been hearing rumors about?

According to GM: No, no, and no.

"It's not really indicative of any specific naming or branding decisions." Corvette PR man Dave Caldwell told us via email. "When we did the semi-recent design concept, we discovered that we did not control the Stingray name to the extent we thought we should."

This makes sense. GM should be able to market the Corvette as a Stingray; therefore, owning the name that should coincide with the Corvette would make perfect sense. Not all Corvettes are necessarily identified as Stingrays, but GM should possess that name in order to identify any future or past models that may carry that badge.

The only way I'd believe that is if the Stingray were some sort of appearance (RS) package on the Corvette. I can't see the Stingray being a trim level or separate model. That being said, the Corvette is already an independent brand internationally, so I wouldn't be surprised to see that sometime in the future in the States.

Is that the original concept or has it been modified? Cause I remember I didn't like the Stingray concept, but I like this once except for the front.

No, that is a C6 GS chopped with probable lines as to what the C7 may look like. Total conjecture.

This is the awesome concept!
