How would you handle this?

When I took delivery of my SS, I noticed the stripe package had long scratches in the stripes. The dealership agreed to replace the stripes at no cost before I signed the paperwork. Yesterday the finally finished the work and upon delivery I found several air bubble that I can't get out, and one crease. Not only that i believe the third party vendor didn't use gm parts for replacement, so to me the color doesn't match the stripes in the back. It looks more a charcoal black and the back looks more matte black.

Would you have them redo the work?

When buying a new car, you are entitled to a car that is fit for a showroom. If the defects can be seen, they must correct it.

get a refund for the retail price of the stripes and use that money towards painting them on.

I don't think they will go for that. Even if they did, I'm sure they would quote some lowball "dealership discount price in the work" type bs.

There is a retail price he paid for the stripes, that's what he should get refunded.

$470 if my memory serves me correctly. (I struggled with this when ordering mine. I got the vinyl and now regret it. I should have saved the $470 and used it towards painting stripes on. After the body work was done a couple of weeks age the body shop sent it to a detail shop. They damaged the stripes using a porter cable. Now the body shop and I are working on a solution / deal to paint the stripes on.)

as far as what the dealer owes you:
It should not be a lowball price. It should be what you paid. (ie. if you paid MSRP for the car then we can assume you paid $470 for the stripes.) It's such a small number compared to the overall price they should eat the $470 even if you paid under MSRP.

Yes, I know their profit margin and dealer kick back is pretty low but they made the errors on the stripes.

See the problem is that they only replaced the front stripes. Now upon further inspection it looks like total ass. The stripes up front are a totally different quality than the oem ones in back. The ones up front feae and look significantly cheaper. Not only that I have the bubbles, and the crease, and spotted several areas where his fingerprint is embedded into the stripe where he applied pressure.

Finally. I don't know why but I can see an outline in the clearcoat where the old stripes used to be. They are as much as 1/4 of and inch off than where the new stripes are in several area's. I tried a small amount of rubbing compound to see if I could get the old "outline" in the clear coat out and I definately couldn't.

As to what I hope doesn't happen is that they try to quote me a refund price of only the front stripes since thats all they paid the vendor to replace.

They need to make this right with you, whatever it takes. Go back and dont be shy about it. This is their problem not yours. Show them the stripes and advise them you expect this car to be perfect. If these people have any integrity they will take care of this and apologize that you had to come back.

Absolutely make him pay for OEM, that is what was sold to you when you paid for this vehicle! If he refuses to get it right call me and i'll come break his knee-caps! lol
