Rear ended :(

Well.. I was rear ended by a young boy yesterday. I've already filled with his insurance. His car was totaled, mine didn't have near as much damaged as his. Now, I've always really tried to take care of my car and even though it's a 2010 there was NO scratches, Knicks, or dents on the rear bumper or diffuser. I've only had the MRT v1 exhaust since September.Name: image.jpg

As you can tell my left side muffler isn't showing lol it's shoved up into the side. The pipe is bent as well really bad. Do I tell the insurance company they need to pay for new tips since they weren't scratched or dented before the accident? I don't want them to put stock mufflers on it or tips since I paid for MRT. And I don't want an aftermarket bumper put on. Do I have some authority to tell them they have to use factory bumper? Thanks!

That blows if u look at ur car real quick it doesn't even look like there's damage and then his car looks destroyed. So how did it happen was he texting?

When I walked over to his car to see if he was okay, he had his phone in his hand. So he might have. He told the police officer that he was going about 40mph and didn't have a chance to break before he hit me. Said he wasn't paying attention. I had 2 witnesses stay behind because the boy was trying to say the light was green and make the situation better but I was at a dead stop at a red light.

It's your car. You have every right to demand OEM parts. You'd be better to have the shop of your choice repair it. They can buy a GM bumper cover and your custom exhaust components and repair them back the way you had it. This actually happened to my wife's BMW twice! Both times we demanded OEM bumper covers. Our body shop discussed this with the insurance company. The body man told them the aftermarket ones don't fit correctly. Good luck and sorry to hear about your accident.

Ouch... hard to see. His car looks bad compared to yours... but I always worry about whether the engine is affected when there's a rear-end collision. A lot of the damage may not be apparent.

It looks like you're missing an exhaust tip (at least)... that kind of shock would go all the way up to the headers and bolts on the engine.

Hope you get it all fixed up. Feel 'er out for any funny vibrations once you get it 'fixed'. Good luck... this one should be a slam dunk, open/close case.

Engines don't get damaged from a rear end collision Let alone the exhaust manifolds & bolts (LOL)
but in this case the rear unibody structure may be. The OP should get it to the shop of their choice
and get it repaired.

I would be willing to bet he was texting or on a phone call. I think it should be a federal law that in all accidents like this they should check to see if the person was on the phone at the time of the accident. If found that the person was on the phone then there should be added penalties. If texting then the penalty should be the same or worse than a DUI.

This on the cell phone/texting while driving crap really pisses me off and must be stopped!

It will be more damage to your exhaust than a tip. Agree, take it to your shop for repair.
