Cam question about mileage
Wanting to get a stage 3 cam and a new converter; I've already have new 3.91 and tru-trac.
How would car do on a 2000 mile trip? Not worried about gas mileage. Is that too long a trip on engine and trans for a straight drive? ( non-stop)(24-28hrs).... please no speculations!!! |

As long as everything is installed correctly, it will be no problem.

I guess the only downside to long mileage trips like that would be that you would be that much closer to having to change your valve springs. ie, 25k miles service interval
But if that was a huge worry, why drive the car at all? amirite? AMIRITE?!?

Stock motors and transmissions have cams and torque converters too. There should be no problems if temps and fluid pressures are in check.

Stock torque converters don't slip and produce the same heat that larger converters do though. And again, it depends on the converter that the OP chooses, but a proper converter for a Stage 3 cam really oughta have a good tranny cooler to keep the temps down. It will be ok for the drive, but its better to invest a couple $$$ on a nice cooler so you're not messing anything up that doesn't need to be. I run the ADM cooler and tranny temps never get above 180, with a Circle D 5C converter

I plan on putting a really good trans cooler on it (Fluidyne), I used them in my other race cars and never had a problem with one.. I will be doing the speed limit on I40. LOL |
