Choosing a torque converter

Hey guys Im doing a little research on torque converters. I have a 2011 L99 with long tube headers, and CAI and I think my next mod will be the torque converter. I may be interested in adding some 3.91 gears and Cam swap next year so can anybody recommend some torque converters?

The converter needs to be matched to the cam and your powerband. I have a Circle D 5C converter and the GPI SS4 cam. Mine flashes to 4800 RPM (my peak torque is at 4900 RPM) and then it spins up to where I make peak HP, which is at 7600 RPM, with the shifts never dropping below 6200 RPM. The combo of parts is key.

for this cam what would be a good torque converter

I wouldn't go less than 2800-3000 stall with a PD supercharger. Look at Circle D, Yank, or Coan.

It wasn't in the original post, as to your build goals, but the converter that will be suitable for a PD blower setup will be less than ideal for a centri blower. I highly suggest calling a reputable shop like GPI, TSP, and talking with them for build recommendations.

A lot goes into the right choice of converter, i.e. type of boost, intended usage, powerband, how well built the motor and driveline already are.

I have the TSP Stage 3 cam and all the supporting mods to go with it and am currently running a Precision 3200 stall in there. Like Bo told me after I did my cam swap I should do a bigger stall that a 3200 would be good for a stock setup, and he is right and am looking to go up to 4000 stall where the cam starts making power, 3200 is just not enough. And as Chris says, it all depends on what your plans are for the car. Good luck in your search sir..

Are you going to boost the car? Your torque converter needs to be selected off the parts in the engine. So if you are adding a cam that is a huge part of what stall speed you select. Also, I see you're looking at a blower cam. Are you planning on doing a supercharger as well? That is also something you would need to consider when selecting a stall otherwise you will need to have it adjusted when changing your set up so significantly.

I see a lot of people installing torque converters and having to go higher when they add a cam. I want to do the converter next spring but stay fbo for a year or so. What's the highest I should go with bolt one so I don't have to do it twice?

Depends on what cam you are gonna go with....I put a 3200 in and I have 3.91s and FBOs, but I wish i had gone bigger...maybe a 3600 or so.
