Pretty sure it's a tie between my Grandfather's engraved lighter from the CVE-76 USS Kadashan Bay and a surplus Navy combat/survival knife that belonged to him (but afaik isn't the one he used in the service).

I kinda want to find a way to clean up the oxidation on the lighter to see what he engraved on there; right now all I can make out are the port of calls of Manilla and Okinawa. :/

Try Brasso, it does amazing stuff. I used it to clean most of the tarnish off of a WWI era German Cavalry Officer's Sabre that my Great-Grandpa's brother brought home as a war trophy (using a dremel with a cloth polishing wheel on low speeds). I've also used it on my old rank and insignias for polishing them up before an inspection or a ball. We also used to use it to polish up the brass for a full-honors funeral when I was on funeral detail.

I've got a rock from the Laurentian Shield in Eastern Canada. The geologists say that such stones are 4.5 billion years old. Apparently, there are some stones from Central Australia that are even older...

Cool, huh?

If your talkin' 'bout more recent developments that are old and tiresome, then you are, for sure, referring to my mother-in-law. What an old battle-axe! She looks like a mummy!

I'll have to give that a try. It's not worth much historically but the sentimental value is definitely there. Doctors aren't giving him long and they sold the old homestead. Aside from the memories and his Knife the lighter is all I really will have left of him. :(

A pocket watch with British Silver Smith markings from the mid 1700's. With it are repair slips dating from late 1700's to early 1900's ...
